Hello everyone I just need some advice on what to do. So I took my truck in, towed it actually, over a month ago to my local dealer cause my truck was acting up and turns out the engine block was cracked so coolant was leaking into the engine. Yes you read that right! But anyways, they told me it would take about a week To get all the parts in and get it back together but that was NOT the case! They’ve had it for over a month and kept telling me they were waiting on parts so I decided to contact Toyota directly because quite frankly it was ridiculous that they couldn’t get parts, head gaskets to be more exact. So I continued to bug them about it and finally after 4 weeks they assure me the parts are being delivered to the dealer and that I should have my truck back by the following Monday. That was not the case either, it’s been over a week since they received the parts and give me no updates and ignore my calls and when I showed up to the dealer today they told me the service advisor dealing with my case was in a meeting, I call total BS! So I need some help on what I should do next, the people at Toyota are no help at all and the dealers just coming up with excuses and keep pushing the date further and further. I’m not sure if I need to get a lawyer or what to do in order to get my truck back. So if anyone can help me out or give me some advice it would be much appreciated!

thank you for reading through my rant lol

Wow, man. That’s no joke. I’d definitely go over their head and ask to talk to someone higher up the food chain at Toyota first. If that’s a no go and they aren’t giving you some compensation for their failure then I’d start looking into further legal action.

Certainly don’t pay them anything to get the truck back after all that.

did they give you a loaner at the very least? understandably a month is a LONG time even for what is essentially an engine swap.. (should have forced them by now to do a crate engine swap.. no- piecemeal.. I want a whole new engine to ensure this doesnt happen again...

I would talk to another dealer and see what your options are to get it moved to a different dealership.

Or at least get the ball rolling in that direction and see if it lights a fire anyway.

Surprised Toyota didn’t tell you that this is normal. I would look into lemon law statute in your state. Lawyer up if needed.

They said it was all covered by the warranty but it seems like no one can do anything about it which is frustrating. To make things worse the guy at the dealer helping me is the service manager smh!

get in touch with BBB, let dealership know you are upset that its taking this long for a simple engine swap. report to BBB, and threaten to keep your review with BBB, and YELP until you are satisfied. then remove bad reviews.. seen it done before..

yeah they gave me a Camry but my argument to them was that I’m not paying for a Camry you know? And they told me they’d give me and extended warranty of some sort but to me that’s not enough.

In this case I can't seem to find the sympathy. Maybe go back and ask for an Audi TT-RS?

Their BBB rating is a D- already smh I should have checked before lol. I take my truck there cause it’s just more convenient for me since I work down the street but forsure never going back there again!

I cannot believe they are getting a new block, taking all the pistons, crank, etc out and putting it into the new block.
I would demand a new engine.
    That's ridiculous.

Exactly what I’m thinking, not to mention my truck only had 33k on it so if I’m having issues now then I can only imagine what’s to come

If your not getting the date the repairs will be completed in writing...they will continue to dick you around. If it’s reduced to writing that would be enforceable.

He's likely getting a new short block. I fail to understand what the issue is here. The dealer's hands are likely tied when it comes to back ordered parts.

I find it highly unlikely Toyota would allow dealer techs to transfer used rotating parts into new bare block. It's a numbers game and a new short block saves them labor and bunch of other parts needing to be replaced

The OP calling BBB or ringing the president of Toyota isn't going to make back ordered parts just show up

Toyota doesn't do "crate" engines. Certainly not under warranty. They'll provide dealers with short blocks and any needed legos, but they don't provide ready to run engines. Just like the 2AZ oil consumption cars.
