I had a hard time finding an OR with MT, though there were plenty of Sports. All of a sudden, when I was seriously looking, a couple became available.

I think Toyo knows what they're doing. Throw enough out there for the real enthusiasts, but focus your effort on the masses who just don't have the interest in driving an MT. Pretty much like every other company that makes an MT these days.

IDK my 17 auto pro is worth the exact same as it was when I bought it, 30,000 miles later. It seems at least at this point depreciation can go fuck itself for everyone regardless of transmission?

Auto transmission preference seems to be A North American thing. Manual shift still seem to be very popular everywhere else. Tripped around Europe a couple of years ago any every vehicle we traveled in was a manual, even late model Mercedes.

I found my 09 5 lug access cab with a manual and snatched it up while I could. I was told it had been on lot for a week, and I wasn’t the first potential buyer.

Imagine being surprised by most people not wanting to drive a manual...

Special ordered (or whatever you call the Toyota system) my Offroad DCSB 6MT last summer, waited 3 months to take delivery.

In the after-purchase surveys and such I made sure to note that the manual was THE differentiator in the purchase. If only auto was available it would have been stacked against a ZR2, Ranger, or a new Frontier most likely, and may not have been the ultimate purchase. Heck, for the money I probably would have cross-shopped some full size trucks too.

MT + locking rear diff were the first two down selects.

The availability of a MT with a 6-cylinder engine were defining reasons to buy the Taco, and sets it apart from the competition.
I believe the only other 6-cyl MT out there is a Porsche 911.
But who knows what TMC will do-going forward- maybe offer it as an (additional cost) option?

Man, funny reading through this. Talk of Toyota never putting a 3.5 in the tundra, talk of twin turbos, electric tacomas. All good stuff, reading posts from almost 3 years ago that have come, or are coming to, fruition.

I Leased an 18 OR MT coming out of 2 4Runners because I missed having a bed. Always hated that the 4Runners weren’t manual. Lease was up and I was sold on them, grabbed a 21 Pro MT. Yeah there’s things I wish I did better but I also love to do those things that make it do what I want it to.

Rock crawling SUUUUUCKS, definitely takes some bouncing. I’m always envious of my AT friends. But, I wouldn’t give up my MT. And, I can put in a dual case (and will) eventually.

The stock tune sucks, it just does. But throwing a tune on it makes it a blast.

All the trucks except one I’ve owned have been manuals. I can definitely say right out of the gate the shifting is WAY better than anything I’ve owned before. It’s not a sports car, it’s a truck. And it shifts damn good for a truck. But, like everything I have I just can’t leave good alone. So I replaced the shifter. Now it’s stupid crisp for a truck.

To me at least, tacomas are purchased by two main types of people. One who wants a reliable truck and doesn’t want to do anything but scheduled maintenance on it. It does that incredibly well. The other is the explorer, adventurer, the one who can’t wait to get off the blacktop (or on to a mall curb, that’s cool too). Those people are the ones who have to make their trucks their own. And the Tacoma excels at that also. It’s like a Lego truck with all the parts available.

I love my taco and my MT. It makes me smile. I also love upgrading it. It’s a great truck and even though people complain about it, they love it too. Or else we wouldn’t be here.

I also believe that the 3rd gen will be the last of the MT’s and that really is a sad thing. It doesn’t mean you couldn’t put one in though

Sorry for the long post but that’s my 1,264 cents… These trucks are awesome.

MT is still available on a lot of compact cars in North America although shifting and texting at the same time can be a bit of a problem.

I was only going to buy a manual for my next car. The reliability, diy-ness, and aftermarket support for the Tacoma made the decision easy.

The only reason I bought a Taco OR was MT. Decided to pull the trigger cause of upcoming 23 redesign and the risk that MT will go away. Will not touch a jeep with 10feet pole. The worst vehicle in terms of quality and reliability. Bronco seems to be having similar issues and has a tiny 4 banger. 2.3l turbo is great in my Saab 9-5 aero sport combi , but inadequate for almost 6000lbs SUV.
So far 600 mi on my new Taco I like it. It is not like my Maptuned Saab, but very enjoyable

How about looking at it another way and let’s assume they could sell 10%. That means 1 of 10 buyers would prefer a manual. Now let’s also take one more leap….you are the one in charge who’s responsible for making money for both the company and its shareholders. Let me hear your speech on convincing the board of directors that you would like to make more manuals when there’s only 1 of 10 buyers who want one. Also remember you don’t have infinite capacity to build as many as you want. Why would you not take the EASY path forward to a sale and build the one that has 9 out of 10 buyers wanting?
