I wonder if there is any difference in build quality between a NA market Tesla built a NUMMI vs a Chinese market built Tesla built at a plant in China?

Probably not, they only thing with the Chinese market vehicles, Tesla has more competition in the Chinese EV market. It would make sense that Tesla would need to put out a better product oversees in comparison to NA, where Tesla doesn't have as much competition. Tesla is ranked the #1 EV in NA, and Tesla customers in China, probably don't care about Musk, or Twitter, and those two probably have zero impact on which vehicle they purchase. Which may have some influence on how people view Tesla as a brand in NA.

Well you are wrong there. Like I said I’ve been in Toyota manufacturing for 15 years now and how workers work in North America, Japan and Mexico is completely different.
For example when the plant in Canada opened it used to be managed by mostly Japanese people. Hard working managers. When there was a shortage of workers Japanese managers that were high up came out on the floor and ran machines themselves. Doing welding and all kinds of dirty jobs.
Today All managers are North American. You would never ever see any of these managers out on the floor working. Not only that they are absolutely clueless about anything that goes on on the floor.
Another example is in Japan workers do 1 job all day long. Each area has multiple jobs. Back when I started we used to learn and do 12 different jobs. Some jobs are not that easy especially in quality inspection because there is a shit load of stuff you have to memorize and when you do that many jobs often you forget something especially if you haven’t done that job for a while. Quality gets missed all the time. The reason Japanese only do 1
Job is because they become experts at that one job. They are very good at it and less likely to miss defects.
This for one would never fly in North America because workers would start bitching about how hard it is to do the same job all day and pretty much everyone would go to medical. That already happens here even with workers knowing multiple jobs. But now here they are also trying to be a bit more like the Japanese by only making workers learn 4 jobs instead of learning every single job in the area.
So for you to say workers in Mexico would take the same pride as workers in another country is just wrong because workers in North America definitely don’t take the same pride to work as the Japanese do.
Mexicans could be thinking why am I working my ass off for $15 an hour when workers in Canada get paid $40 for doing the same job? Workers in different parts of the world don’t get paid the same. I was training workers from Alabama here in Canada and they get paid much less than we do and they completely did things differently then we did here hence why they got sent here to improve on the quality. And quality is definitely different depending on which country you are in.

Isn't working for Toyota in Mexico be considered a good or great job? Are their labour laws as favoured to the employee similar to Canada or the US? Is their cost of living similar to Canada or the US? I would think if Toyota (and other manufacturers) kept a clean and safe work environment and paid a realistic locally affordable wage in Mexico they would have employees who would happily do the best they can. If it's easy to go on medical or sit on the crapper all day and generally not work and blame the company for all your problems like here in Canada or the US quality would be nothing but difficult to control. It doesn't seem to be the case. Fender guitars are produced in both the US and Mexico. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. The US produced ones supposedly have better components but I think this is just an excuse to be able to charge way more for them because of the higher cost of living in the US vs Mexico. They hold their quality to a strict level. If Toyota can do their best to control quality as they have in the past then quality should be comparable. Japan is a whole different story, culture and work ethic. We can't compete with our culture and work ethic. Especially since it's so easy to be on a medical leave or claim harassment, who would want to work hard and be proud of their workplace?

You would be surprised how different things are run between Mexico, Canada and the US. As to how easy it is to go on medical I’d say very easy. Almost all the people that are on medical leave have nothing wrong with them.
Wages are very fair in Canada but that still doesn’t stop people from complaining. Another thing is that all new employees are contracts. When I started you were a contract for 2 years and made full wage in about 3 years. Today contracts wait 8 years to make full wage. So you think these people that do the same job as me for less money will care about quality?
Also what you don’t know manufacturing companies win awards for quality, how well things are run. We know where all the Toyota plants ranks. One in Canada has won multiple JD power platinum awards. Japan won a bunch. Never ever has a plant in Mexico won any awards ‍♂️

Since this is a Toyota forum I’m referring to Toyota plants. Never worked for GM so I wouldn’t know anything about how things are run there

I guess I'm lucky then. I have a Mexican Tacoma that has pretty good quality. This is the problem. People that make less than you probably have worked there less time than you. If they were paid the same as you what incentive is that for you and other valuable long term employees to do quality work? A bit of a catch 22. How long before they can go on medical? Maybe they should make that 8 years. Performance incentives work in most other non union workplaces. Working smart and keeping ahead of your "goals" should help keep the raises/ bonuses coming in. But that isn't the way it works here. If you work hard or smart, you make others look bad which gets you unemployed rather than a raise. So we have a situation of the lowest employee has control of the speed and quality of the company. Almost impossible to correct.

Is it correct to compare a plant producing lexus vs a truck where initial designs are far apart?

I would think so, since most of the comparing is not in the design, it is in the quality of the build, like paint flaking off, rattles to no end, trim pieces not matching up, etc.

Would you like a heated steering wheel
    With your remote start?:)

Seriously though I don’t get it. In our tacos, we’ve got a “defrost” mode that heats up an element and produces heat pretty much instantly. Idling the truck when it’s cold just dilutes oil with gas quicker and wastes fuel. IMO of course.

Let's take a rear bumper caps gap on the side? Is it by design or assembly tolerance?
BTW, currently I have 2 japan built vehicles (2012, 2022) and white Mexico tacoma. I dont see assembly quality issues between all 3.
