Is there any way to turn off that damn predictive typing on the Navigation system when trying to enter an address?

No less then 4-6 times have i tried to enter an address that i know is there and has been an existing building for ......well..........decades and the Toyota Nav system refuses to allow me to type in the actual address Numbers.

example was yesterday i was going to a meeting in the country. The address was (not real one to protect my client ) 6234 Blummer Road . The map system found Blummer road, The Farm has been there for 100+ years and the Toyota system wouldn't let me enter anything but 6034 . the 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 numbers greyed out when i enter the first number 6.

is there a setting, hack , magic spell, sacrificing a chicken ..anything i need to do to turn off this Bullshit predictive text they seem to have forced down my throat? I'm at the point of ripping their whole integrated system out and installing some 3rd party system instead.

I’ve found the Toyota Nav system to be the best one I’ve ever had in a vehicle. Works great!

So you tried to enter the address for a building that’s been there for a long time, do you know how to get there?

Had a similar problem on one of my cars (sorry not sure which one) that was due to not searching in the right state.

Mine wont let me search another destination while driving. Wife driving and I couldnt change destination because it is part of the Nanny State of thought. Its decent for the most part. Also, you have to go thru several menus to change turn by turn voice volume. Why not on map screen?

Thanks for a reminder why I'll try to continue to avoid in dash nav and stick with my portable Garmin.

If you think you're frustrated now, wait till you have to pay to have the maps updated............

Hopefully someone will have a solution for you. What you describe does seem quite ridiculous.

ive also noticed it like to send you on weird routes...like the other night leaving boston it was sending me on a different route than google maps usually sends me...so I said fuck it ill see where its trying to take me...and it was a muuuuuch, much shittier roundabout route, where googles is a very direct simple way out of boston(Cambridge technically) found that kind of annoying

If it wouldn't let you type the exact address number in, that means the map doesn't contain that address. GPS boxes aren't magic - they can only 'find' addresses that are a part of their databases. Even if you turned off the predictive typing and entered the exact address, it would come up as 'not found.' It still sucks, but it's not the fault of the predictive typing. It's the fault of whatever company Toyota outsources their mapping to for having a crappy map database.

I'm continually blown away at just how crappy automotive nav systems continue to be, compared to Google maps. Granted, many of the Google features require an active data connection, but still, it's leaps and bounds better, even in offline mode. I guess it's just evidence of how stodgy/conservative the auto industry is.

Quite literally every other map system shows the address on the map. Garmin, google, mapquest, scout...Toyotas is literally the only system that i have found today that doesnt recognize a 100 year old address..lol.

most gps system i have at least allow you to enter in the address fully and the poredictive typing system should be a toggled option ..this system doesnt even allow the opportunity. Im going to have to find another solution or shit can Toyotas intergrated system in favour of another 3rd party system . the one i have in my old Ford explorer worked damn near flawlessly and my sisters Volkswagen system works well also. she was able to type in and locate the farm on the map and so was my bosses system in his GMC pickup , i called him and had him try it.

I can't believe any manufacturer allows that.

All manufacturers have a shed out back full of attorneys addressing product liability.

Exactly. After all the stuff you CAN'T do while the vehicle is moving, they make you step through menu's to change the freakin' volume??? Makes no sense whatsoever. :annoyed:

My 2015 nav is god awful for Utah addresses. Granted we use the grid system, but I have never once gotten to the right place using it. Google Maps is on top of it though!

This is not standard and you know it isn't. It happens to me too, but quite infrequently. When it does, I usually just type in any number and navigate to the street. THEN I visually look for the correct number. There are a bazillion streets and even more addresses. Every now and then real life does not coincide with virtual life.

In-dash nav systems using static maps are so '90s. Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps are all better than what you'll get from a car manufacturer.
