I hate to say it but this whole thread is pointless, toyota came out with a "raptor" version tacoma in 2008 called Sema Tacoma
    Look it up..

"We built the Tacoma Off Road Concept so that it bore some resemblance to last year's Toyota Tundra TRD Off Road Concept, but with this truck we gave it a more aggressive suspension," said Gary Boler, business operations manager of Toyota Racing Development.

TRD gave the Tacoma Off Road Concept a 7-inch wider track and re-engineered the suspension to soak up the toughest Baja trails.

The independent front suspension received longer, custom steel A-arms and Bilstein coil-over shock absorbers with 13 inches of travel. The rear was radically overhauled. The live axle and leaf springs were replaced with a fabricated independent suspension that included another set of Bilstein coil-over shocks with 14 inches of travel. The front and rear springs surrounding the race-ready dampers were milled from titanium, saving about 7 pounds per corner.

"The idea (in back) was to have little unsprung weight, long wheel travel and to keep the bed level," Boler said.

The 4.0-liter V-6 engine was upgraded with a TRD supercharger and TRD air intake. Both of those accessories are available today through a Toyota dealer. The gold TRD forged-aluminum 16x7.5-inch wheels will be available in January, Boler said.

Until it's a production vehicle... how is it pointless?

Side bit... I still want that TRD steering wheel on that truck.

yeah and agreed, i want that steering wheel and youre right that its not a production vehicle but the title of thread is pointless in the fact that toyota did come out with a truck like the raptor, its just not in production yet is all i was stating. And i'm a little iffy about the paintjob, thats the only thing, everything else is amazing though

Dude no one mentioned that Ford ADVERTIZED that you CAN jump this truck! Who bad ass is that!?! And $38K is cheep for that truck. You cant but any full size truck and put long travle suspension on it for that much money. I give ford a pat on the back, for that. Would I buy one...well I just don't want a full sized truck. Put it in a ranger, I would crunch the numbers, at least.

this thread reminds me of the srt-4 forums.

if i put $xxx amount of money into my car, i can totally waste XXXX cars...

the raptor is pretty damn sweet. 400hp w/ long travel from the factory.
    big price tag though.

IMO i would rather have a long travel taco though

Came here to say this, except replace "SRT-4" with "Mitsubishi Evo" :p

It's asinine to compare a stock vehicle to a modded one. You might be able to run with this truck, or out-run it off-road, if you invested $10k into your Tacoma (but then you're also comparing a mid-size truck to a full-size one.) However, your modded Tacoma won't have the reliability or warranty that the Raptor comes with from the factory. Not only that, but the Raptor is turnkey, you don't have to hunt down aftermarket suspension/brake/power/etc components, deal with the new issues that come up with heavy modding, pay out of pocket when remaining stock components break due to the increased stress, etc etc etc.

As a (former) longtime Ford owner, I got a great laugh out of this comment. The word "reliability" left Ford LONG ago.

I looked at one a little at the farm progress show, and I have to admit, its an impressive package and I had a little bit of drool. In the end though, I couldn't justify the price tag and the size on a desert racing vehicle when I've never even been to a desert and was really looking for a smaller truck. I admit, it would have been fun, just wasn't practical or economical when I could look at smaller trucks and add a few things and be happy for less. Also being first run, kinda scary. However, it makes oen wonder if those will be a collectors car in the future, but there might be more made then I realize.

The Sema Taco though, very interesting.

You are giving ford way too much credit. Reliability is going to be a huge issue and I bet these don't get a 36k mile warranty. Especially if they are advertising you can jump it. There is a reason 6 digit desert TT don't get the frames painted. Too hard to see the cracks ;)
