I know it's an old thread but they did come out with them. I saw them at the dealer.

I think the new tacoma should incorporate some of the raptors locker options plus a electronic sway bar disconect

I just like the idea of integration. IMO TRD OR package doesn't go far enough... they should've put thicker skids, AT tires, black trim (like the 4Runner Trail Ed,) and raised breathers.

Yes you can get all these stuff after market, but it's just so much better to get it straight from the factory since they can sort out all the kinks in the combination of equipments. Also, it would also mean they have to make the electronic systems work seemlessly with all the added components.

All means $$$ to the bottom line and a reduction of sales overall. Most TRD OR owners won't take their trucks beyond a dirt road. Better to leave it after market and let the hobbyists like yourself tinker. Of course having Toyota offer more options that could be dealer installed would be nice, but again, would you pay twice what you would if you did it yourself using 3rd party parts?

All this talk of Toyota vs Raptor is truly apples and oranges as was mentioned earlier in the topic. It all comes down to what you plan on doing with your vehicle. I found the raptor very interesting and Ford impressed with where they are going with this. But if you put 60,000 miles per year on your truck with 60% of those miles being offroad and far away from asphalt like I do you need a real truck. One made for offroad with clearance. 99% of stock trucks made are in reality geared toward soccer moms driving the herd to practice or the grocery store. I have driven many Chevy, Ford and Toyota 4x4's over the years putting 1.5 million miles on those vehicles since 1984. I normally change out trucks every 36 months.

My experience with the three brands has been this:

Chevy - Unmatched comfort and ride but plan on spending time at the dealership. Your mirrors will fall off, alternators will die and automatic windows will never seem to work. Turning radius sucks so much that an Abrahms tank would be easier in tight spots.

Ford - Very durable but no comfort and plan on a rough ride. But you can depend on a ford not to have the small things go wrong like chevy. Also cheaper than chevy.

Toyota - This is my fourth Yo and as always they are very conservative compared to other makers. The ride is on par with Ford but overall quality seperates them from the rest of the pack. You can wake up and know your vehicle is going to start up. I just walked out of a Tundra 5.7 liter crew cab 4x4 that would get up and go when needed or turn circles in turning radius compared to Ford & Chevy. But it is still somewhat of a soccer moms truck where the designers think concrete and not dirt roads with holes. My clearance had me hanging up every stick on 3,000 acres under my carriage.

Tacoma is about the only stock vehicle that from the start is geared toward a life offroad if needed. You get stock clearance from the purchase and great turning radius. My bitches are why not have a rubber floor with no carpet. Or offer heated mirrors so you can actually use them as you go to work in the morning.

I just bought two 4x4 Tacomas, one double cab and one access cab and paid $54k for the two. If you are going to buy a raptor expect to pay just about the same price I paid for the two. In this economy from a business standpoint you can't justify those numbers. The Raptors are nice but too high in price to be in the running.

A friend of mine just bought a raptor last week, he paid $50k after getting $18k on his trade in. That comes up to $68k for his new truck. It has every option known to mankind with lots of HP to match the options. He called me a few days ago to say his A/C just died and he was having doubts of his new Raptor....

Forgot offering this stuff from the factory. What there needs to be, is a 3rd party company that will "convert" your Tacoma into "Raptor mode" for you for a fixed price. Kind of like how Hennessey tuning will convert a stock Jeep SRT8 into a horsepower beast, except it would be an offroad geared package instead of for performance. By the way, has anyone seen the Hennessey tuning "VelociRaptor 800" upgrade for the F150 Raptor? Pushes the HP to 800 HP....holy crap

On the Abrahms vs Chevy turning comment - I got stuck with a Chevy Silverado for three weeks as a rental vehicle. The Chevy could manage well planned turns in a parking lot. I have seen an Abrahms manuever up close on many times. People would be impressed if they knew how well they turn and steer with the dual tracks that can turn independent of each other. I WISH my Tacoma could turn like an Abrahms - it would make parking at work much easier.

While it's nice, there's something about building a vehicle up from the ground that just makes it so much better.

Yeah it was a bad analogy, I've never run abrahm tanks before but have run plenty of bulldozers that turn on a dime to make a dixie chopper envious...I was hoping no one would catch on....

honestly i like the raptor, i think it looks pretty mean and the stuff it comes with is pretty sweet too. buuuut would i ever buy one? hell no i think buying a truck with everything youll ever need is boring. like mentioned above its 1. alot nicer to make a truck yours by aftermarket mods & 2. its much more fun modding it your self than buying it that way haha.

but what i think would be cool is if yota had different levels of the OR package for example.

TRD OR- comes as is now
TRD OR 2- comes with better tires, a little lift, rear locker, front lsd
TRD OR 3- comes with sick ass tires, nice as hell lift, full functioning skids, and some beefier bumpers, fully locked, and SAS!

i think that would be pretty sweet for people to either get the holy shit package and not have to mod much at all. or for people to get the regular TRD to make the truck exactly what they want

I still don't get why people complain about the turning radius of full-size trucks. It's a 6,000 lb truck...it's not going to turn on a dime. That's not what it's designed to do.

It's like saying, "I hate that my BMW doesn't have 12" of ground clearance and an offroad suspension."

Once again what are you doing with your truck! I happen to be farming on 3,000 acres and its either turn or go into a 20' deep canal, I chose the turning option...If your making a three point turn in the city once a day I agree with you. I would be making about 100 of these every day...

Hell I wish they had a power brake option like they have on tractors with a left and right foot brake pedal. If you want to make a sharp left, step on the left pedal and it locks up the left rear wheel and spins your ass in that direction on a dime...

WTF? He WAY over paid. When I go on fordvehicles.com and build a Raptor I can't make the MSRP more than $45k+change. This is including the 6.2L engine and Luxury Package.
