For those who want a diesel option, I don't think it'll happen for anything not heavy duty. Diesels are way more popular in Europe, where it looks like they want them phased out by 2035, either completely or hybrid models.

California wants to phase out all gas powered vehicles by 2035.

that’s not too far away. I feel like I should just supercharge every vehicle that I own now.

I heard some Midwest states are gonna make diesel mandatory on all vehicles. Even bicycles!

    Mr. Toyoda is correct.

Mining the material for batteries and manufacture of such is very energy inefficient.

Most electricity in the USA is generated by burning of either coal or natural gas.

Owning an electric vehicle only displaces where the pollution is generated.

Batteries do not work well in Cold temperatures.

Batteries have very limited range, mostly usable in city commutes, long distance travel will always be hampered.

Charging a battery is time consuming.

Batteries are very heavy. Energy density for each pound of battery does not compare well to any fuel.

People moan and groan when the battery to start their engine dies every 3-5 year while grumping about the cost. Imagine having 20-30 batteries that need replacement....................every 4-5 years....

    Consider a scenario......
You're out in the boondocks 4 wheelin'......your battery takes a dump. Your ride is dead. Can someone bring you kilowatt of electricity? I s'pose you could haul a gen set and inverter to charge up, but you still need to carry fuel for the genny. Or a buddy could haul a set of replacement batteries to you......

Electric at best is a bridge to the next fuel source with enough merit to handle the tasks of liquid fuel.

All this talk about going to 100% electric vehicles is mine boggling to me.

California has passed by 2035 all vehicles must be electric, is that correct? Yet every year you hear about the rolling blackouts in California because the grid system can’t deliver, so what is California plans to overhaul the electric grid there? Also wasnt it the electric grid system that cause that big fire in California?

A few years ago when there was a huge fire north of Durango, we, brother-in-law and I took a ride up to Silverton for lunch in the SLK, just need a break from work we where doing. On our way back home, HWY550 got closed about 15 miles north of town, because of the fire. That means a 3 hours, 134 mile detour around the mountains, that was the short detour. As I start heading back north, we passed a Tesla heading south, who would also have to get turned around. I have no idea what range he had left, but at the time Silverton, Ouray, Ridgeway did not have charging station, where I was able to stopped, added some fuel and kept right on going. It was a nice day for a drive and I wasn’t stuck somewhere wanting or waiting to charge my vehicle.

I would like to see a hybrid system, basically carrying my own generator to keep the system charge, but not full electric.

And yet all of those other brands/vehicles mentioned have nowhere near the resale value as the Tacoma. Interesting.

And Tesla leaving CA isn't going to help with their 2035 plan.

I think they covered this on the newer taco’s but standard climate control and automatic lights isn’t that big of an ask. Not having these in 19 is a joke.

Agree that trucks are trucks but times have changed since the 80’s and 90’s. Vehicles are more reliable these days.

If I wanted a Jeep or a Bronco it would have to a 1970s 80s when AMC made them model not just a fancy mall crawler, they made them so you can take the doors off just for the cool look
Chrysler screwed the jeep(YJ) by putting square(rectangular) headlights on it then they bolted the roll bar to the windshield for the full cage look and I think the YJ had small tubes going from the A pillar( windshield) to the B pillar sorry but I just don't like the new ones IMHO
