I just finished installing oem led headlights with Dave's harness. Have a quick question. When I start my car initially, the drl don't turn on unless the car is in motion. Is this normal or did I somehow mess up something here? My headlight setting is on auto. Much appreciated for input.

I don’t know, but to clarify; do they actually turn on when the wheels start turning or when you put it in Drive?

They wont turn on unless the car goes into motion. Just putting it into D or R wont turn them on. About 5 seconds later once the car is moving, the drl turns on. I find it really odd and just wanted to clarify if that is how toyota set them up.

On my 3rd Gen SR5, the daytime running lights only come on once you disengage the parking brake or put the truck in drive. If you start the truck and just sit there, the DRLs will not come on unless you had the parking brake engaged and disengage it (or put the truck in drive).

That’s just with the stock headlights, not LEDs. It may be the same principle though.

I did take ebrake off and put it into D or R but still drl wold not turn on. Only turns on like 4-5 seconds after trucks is in motion.

Another observation. Once the drls are on, they will stay on even when the car in park, with or without parking brakes.

If I recall correctly on my 2021 that had an automatic I always used the parking brake and the DRL's didn't turn on till I took off. Let the lights in auto mode and shut down the truck with the parking brake off. Restart and see what it does.

You were right on the dot. Turned car off with parking brake not engaged and then started car and drls are turning on immediately. I just don't know why Toyota would go extra mile to make sure your drls won't turn on with parking brake engaged.
But thanks for the tip Was bugging me all day at work

I've had a couple different makes of vehicles that were like that.

Glad you got the mystery solved! :fistbump:

I have that harness with the LED's on my '18 TRDOR and it's always been the the DRL's come on the instant the emergency brake is released. Never thought twice about it.

I've been thinking about putting the newer version OEM LED headlights on my 2018 SR5. Where is the best place to buy them?

Will they bolt right up, and all I'll need is Dave's harness?
