So , I need a new radiator for my ‘04 Tacoma, 4wd, std trans. The replacement part #, I believe, is 16410-0c032, and apparently at this point there are 82 on backorder without an eta. I’ve checked with a number of dealers hoping someone would have one sitting in stock, but none have had one. Soooo, what’s out there for a replacement that’s not junk, at least as good quality as factory and a direct fit that will use a factory radiator cap? I usually only use original factory parts in my truck and I’m really hesitant to go with an aftermarket replacement.

I had a part store radiator in for a while but I never liked it. I'm doing a bunch of other work so I ordered a koyorad. I did have to order the Koyorad cap that goes with it. It just came in today. It firs perfect and looks great to me. I am a ways from having it running so I can't comment on the claimed improved performance or longevity.

But if your looking for options it one.

I avoided the champion after this thread. They also stoped listing it for 4x4 probably fine for street but I wheel mine.

I changed mine out for a Denso from Rockauto about 2 years ago. It's been great. If you go that route be sure to use the TW discount code.

Last year I needed one as well but found it very hard to find anything in stock. This is the one I ordered after my initial order from a seller on Amazon arrived damaged from a poor packing job. https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/508099215 This seller shipped quickly and packaged it very nice. It arrived with no damage and has been working great.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I like the copper and Brass ones

The plastic tanks I seem to have bad luck with they crack so easy in my case.

    Good luck finding something.

If your stuck Go the local Napa route.

When I cruise down the highway......my coolant is now in the high 150's.......
didnt like the cap that came with it....but the oem one fits fine.....
this will add years to life of my engine........takes extra half gallon just to fill it up.

Never use the built-in tranny cooler anyways......it'll just heat things up more.....always used external tranny cooler.....and just plugged/bypassed the tranny cooler nipples on radiator......
heat is the enemy....to your oil, tranny, ect......

I used a Denso. Factory cap seems to work although it was a bit tight. Anyone else using Denso notice that?

IIRC I’m running the cap that came with the Denso because my old cracked oem rad had a replacement Napa cap.

Wow theyre still in backorder. I had the same issue a couple months ago as I only use oem. Went with the Denso one from a local parts store. Denso makes supplies the parts for toyota so was was as oem close as I could get it. They make an aluminum one some conpany i think its called champion or something like that but u gotta use the azn green coolant instead of toyota pink.

I replaced mine with a Denso from Napa. Made in China. But the cap is made in Mexico!
I see the big S on the cap for Stant

All I can say is shop around .

I run the same radiator in my 3.4 swaps it was just a easy matter for me to make brackets and change the lower radiator hose.

Unless things have changed there are only 2 size radiator caps the small ones like our Toyota`s and a larger one.

Just did a KOYORAD from Rockauto last month. It's thicker then my stocker (2002 3.4L 4x4 5sp) and also longer by an inch (factory skid still works). Comes with it's own brackets and fit like OEM. Very happy with it and the bit more in expense is totally justified with the quality and warranty.

Just cannot trust chain store chinese crap anymore.

Also Heard tons of horror stories from people running the Champions

I really picky about the parts I use. I was a parts manager for 35 years and I’ve seen so much aftermarket junk. Disc brake rotors and rear shoes are about all I’ll take a chance with.

    I completely understand that!

It's just getting harder and harder to find genuine parts and the prices are going up and up.

I believe some member reported their Koyo failed on them. I was looking at them but I think I'll just go with the Denso with the plastic end tanks...much to my dismay.

I used a denso from Napa from a 5 lug 2.4 2rz for my wife’s 4runner with a 3.4. I had a Champion for my off-roading truck but I may buy another one for that since it is cooling my 4runner fine and don’t feel like enough people with Champions have had non-leaking units. Will have to modify the shroud and buy a different lower hose.

Do you have a radiator shop nearby? If so, they could probably custom make something for you. Otherwise, keep searching the internet for one.
