Wanted to share my ordering F up with the Toyota Memorial day sale, Toyota's website is challenging at best. I was planning to order a Trailhunter skid plate and when I received it today I noticed it said 'TOYOTA' and not 'TRAILHUNTER'. I immediately knew I ordered wrong. I looked up what I got and it's the Land Cruiser 1st edition skid and after looking at pics it's the same as the TH but with Toyota, straight front, and a no plastic trim. I bolted it up and I actually like it better since I don't have a TH and the plastic trim is not needed. So there is an alternative to the TH skid, part#pt228-60242.

Steel same as Trailhunter, looked and FedEx has it listed as 26pds with all packaging. It came with a bracket that's not needed for the Tacoma or at least I couldn't figure out where it goes and some hardware so my guess is it weighs about 23-34pds.

That’s nice! I’ve been mulling the trail hunter skid plate for the protection it offers but I don’t want trail hunter embossed on it for my off road. This is great alternative, thank you sir!

I don't know what unit of measure a "pds" is, but I do know what "lbs" are.

I agree with you 100%. I like that this may be an option. What would be the appeal to this over the TRD Pro skid plate though?

I wonder if the bracket is to allow adding this to Sport and SR5.

Still got to remove it to do oil change……..there’s some really good 3rd party skid plates that have compartment doors to make oil change easier without skid plate removal

Price! TRD plate retails at around $500. These retail much cheaper and can be found at discounted prices too.

Would you be so kind to share where I can get one of these skid plates, please?
I am waiting for my TRD Sport plus to arrive, and I would love to add a skid plate.

    Here's one source:
    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~lndc~frskp~pt228-60242.html

Do a web search for "PT228-60242". If you wait until July 4th, many Toyota dealers have very nice sales (online). For instance, I bought an OEM bed mat Memorial Day weekend for $125 out the door and went and picked it up at my dealership. Great price and no shipping. Many sales will also include free shipping on many parts.

Your welcome Sarah. Try searching "autoparts.yourdealername.com" to get you to the online port. It works for me and my surrounding dealers here in Alabama. Regardless, Toyotapartsdeal has been a pretty good source for me for years now.... it's just that the shipping can be a detractor.

For reference, TRD Skid plate was $414 during the Memorial Day sale.

With the new standard spin off oil filters the door won't work without a mess. I had the door on my last Taco and it worked with the cartridge type but even that it would make a mess and I ended up taking it off. With the 2 new bolt holders it's very easy to take off.

I don't think so, I tried to line it up with any of the bolts I have ad couldn't, also it's way shorter. As small as it is I thought it might be for something in the 2 middle bolts but I couldn't figure it out and it bolted right up to mine without it.

Good to know that the door really isn't very useful. I really like that Toyota added the bolt slots for easy install.

NP - I will say at around 25pds the weight is nothing but the bulk of it is a little more work, keep a blanket close so you can just push it over on it so you don't scratch it all up.

Several discount codes available on line……….I waited for a Holiday sale and got 30% off.
“Team Oil Drop” has a YouTube video on how to do an oil change with this skid plate AND NOT MAKE A MESS…
No matter what skid plate you install…….for the Sport you will need to Purchase Crossmember………Toyota did not include it for Sport models…….thank you Toyota
Good time to remove deflector shield…….. No MPG penalty
