Post 104. It is the next day and, therefore, I was asking where said pictures are. Apparently they have yet to be posted. Maybe tomorrow.

If the OP's vehicle is wrecked, it's possible he may have a transportation challenge now and can't just run down to Walmart and pick up a new card reader.

To the OP, that sucks about your truck, I too would be upset.

I can see your point about wanting new parts, as I too would probably fight for that as well, however I can also see the dealerships stance on not replacing the parts as I'm sure they legidimately feel that it can be fixed.
Just because they are a dealership doesn't mean they are an open cheque book, or would handle things any differently then your insurance company. The same would happen at Home Depot if your truck was hit by a shopping cart.
If that was the case, then every inncident would result in people demanding a new vehicles.

I have met Valkyrie (Chris) personally as well as a couple of other folks from TRDparts4u and really do think that his intention on posting here is to not take blame away from the dealership but to try to help the situation before it spins even more out of control.
I think that Valkyrie and the others at TRDparts4U do alot for the Toyota Community in the area, not only through part sales but also through personally organizing events and by helping other members. I would be glad to have people like him supporting the Toyota Coommunity where I live.

I'm by no means siding with the dealership here, as it sounds like they could have communicated better. However I'm also not close minded enough to not realize that there are always two sides to everything. At the end of the day accidents do happen, and yes, it sucks when they do.

The OP agreed to bring his truck there to get repaired, lets hope that he is happy with the results.

    I speak for myself only:
If the dealership would have handled the incident right and treated the OP fairly this would have been a 2 post thread. However things didn't go that way and the dealer tried to cheap out on the OP. I dont want hand outs, however I want to be treated fairly, and from what I know of the situation is that the OP was not treated fairly. I dont know anyone on this site personally I only know them by posts, but I will defend anyone if they have been wronged. That was how I was brought up and that is how my son will be brought up. Do the right thing and 99% of the time shit just works out.

I fixed my original post to make Kilo happy.

This thread is stupid. I understand the OP is mad that his vehicle was damaged. But allow them to repair it (like any other insurance company would do) and move on. People get so worked up about things that it actually costs you more emotionally than monetarily. The voices from the angry mob (ie - TW) only perpetuate the situation.

No one is going to replace parts because they were slightly damaged. If someone bumps into you in a parking lot, their insurance company will offer to have the vehicle FIXED. No insurance company would replace parts that any body shop can repair.

    Shit happens...get over it.

And if they do not turn it into their insurance company, the claim does not need to be filed and no one ever needs to know it was fixed.

Not true. I have a 2005 that I bought last month that is certified and has been rear ended according to the carfax the certification program provided to me and they still certified it. I believe it cannot be certified if carfax claims it as MAJOR damage and this case it isn't major damage so his truck could be certified.

I agree with going to your insurance company and letting them deal with it. That is what they are there for. I had a 1995 Civic that got wrecked by someone and it wasn't my fault. Their insurance didn't want to give me new HONDA body panels so I went to my insurance and they fixed everything with honda parts. On top of that my car was in the shop for 1 month because the honda parts were on back order so their insurance had to pay for a rental for the entire month. My insurance went after them and got their money. If you have full coverage that is what they are there for.

Please explain how he was "wronged". Because they wouldn't REPLACE parts that could easily be fixed?

Why would they replace the parts - because they're a dealership? Have you ever filed an insurance claim? Did they replace every damaged part on your truck? I'm guessing they fix what they can and replace the rest.

Since the dealer is a certified dealer I believe by law they have to report the damage so it probably will go on his truck's history.

    1. Read the entire thread then you might understand.
    2. Because they damaged the vehicle.
    3. Sure have.
    4. Didn't have the truck then, but each vehicle was corrected to my satisfaction and I was compensated for loss of value.

This is an open forum, people can go and come as they wish. If it's such a stupid thread, get off of it and troll somewhere else.

Actually, I did read the entire thread. The OP's truck was damaged while work was being performed at the dealership. They immediately began the process of fixing the damage so he could have his truck back in a timely manner. He was not satisfied with their offer to fix and would rather they replace these parts.

Unfortunately for him, that is not how ANY insurance company, dealership or 3rd party would handle the situation. If it can be fixed, they will fix it. If not, they replace it. And you are RARELY compensated for loss of value if the damage is this minimal. Been hanging around these forums for a long time and everyone wants it but few actually get it - especially for damage that is (apparently) very minimal. We have yet to see pictures of said damage.

And there has not been confirmation that this would even show up on a carfax report. There is no legal responsibility for anyone to report damage to carfax. There is a legal responsibility if the vehicle is to receive a re-branded title (flood, salvage, junked, etc). But minor accidents are not required to be submitted to any agency, authority or organization.

File the claim with your insurance company and see if they will replace the parts. And that WILL DEFINITELY get the "accident" submitted to carfax.

technically anything that resulted in a "repaired" vehicle should show ona carfax...people do not report to carfax, ins companies do, an individual cannot call carfax and say hey, hereis my vin, i was in an accidnet.doesn't work that way. even a ding in door will go to carfax if ins comp reprts it, i have had many accidents in my day,my fault or not, irrelevant, and standard procedure is not to just dress it up to look like new, bondo and filler is a bad idea in any case just about, and that is not how it always works. go bang a car in a dealer lot, and see if you get charged to replace teh part or just repair it.

This is the part that I have the most problem with. I am done with this post, because I believe I have said all I need to say.

The people telling others to stop posting or that their opinions are invalid/stupid/etc. need to learn what the interwebz is all about and stop getting their panties in a wad.

The dealership should have called immediately after the truck was wrecked. I think we can all agree that they completely pooch-screwed that one.

The OP can want replacement parts all he wants, but insurance isn't going to pay for it, and if the dealership thinks they can repair it w/o replacement parts (and it meets whatever standards they have), then that's what they're going to do. OP already said that they would allow him to inspect their work.

I don't know where somebody goes to get an appraisal, but he should get one done on the truck and try to determine how much the value has been diminished. (If this work shows up on Carfax, then I bet there is some diminished value.) He should request that amount from the dealership, and sue (if he feels the need) if they refuse.

I wonder if he could get the dealership not to report it? That would pretty much do away with any diminished value worries. (Then agian... there's a question of ethics there... not that the dealer who didn't call him right away would have a problem w/ the ethical considerations.)

By the way... where are the OP and Toyota of Dallas guy, anyway?
