This has been said a couple times throughout this thread which makes me think this isn't the first time this has happened there, just the first time we've heard about it here. I also think it's not the last time it'll happen there. The thing is, will they learn from this or continue business as usual? A couple things are certain from this. The op's vehicle has an accident on the vehicles carfax report if the dealership reported it, which will lessen resale value (loss). If they didn't report it, that should be condidered fraud, not good for TOD since it has been exposed here. Alot of people are now aware of how TOD does business ( bad for them, good info for us). With the above quoted statement everyone knows there is a good chance of damage to your vehicle if you leave it there, and you now wonder how many are out there that were damaged & fixed without the owners knowledge? Maybe none, but after this the doubt is there. We all know what the best action should have been here, businesswise. What I would suggest TOD should do is enact a corrective action, such as employee training for anyone that drives customer vehicles as well as possibly padding every post in areas of possible contact, & post actions & pics here just to show they are proactive & are working to prevent future incidents. Or they could do nothing & prove correct alot of comments made here.

Wow! Just read this thread and I registered to comment! No I do not have a Tacoma, but just traded my 2007 FJCruiser for a 2010 4Runner Trail (which I bought from Toyota of Dallas). I also own a 2004 Prius (which I bought from Toyota of Dallas) that is my daughter's vehicle. So here's a first post :)

I gotta say this is an interesting thread with many good comments and reactions. I too believe that TOD handled the initial problem poorly. But as I would expect from these two guys, the issue IS being resolved. I knew this would happen, because I know these guys.

Some, from other parts of the country, may not be aware that Toyota of Dallas is one of the most user friendly dealers for the off-road Toyota community. Chris and Phil participate, create, sponsor and wheel at events around Texas and elsewhere in the US. I am one of the CoDirectors of FJSummit.org,held in Ouray Colorado (year 4 will be this July, Tacos are welcome BTW). We couldn't have this event without Phil and Chris' sponsorship, good advice and tireless support. TRDParts4u was the Top sponsor for FJSummit 2009 and continues this year with a pivotal role.

It does not surprise me that these two "parts guys" have stepped up to the plate, taken their knocks, and are doing there dvmnedest ( can ya swear on this forum?) to make things right. Knowing them, this is not just a "business" decision. It's the RIGHT decision to resolve this Customer's problem ( however self inflicted by their employer, TOD).

So, I applaude you, Chris and Phil, for even READING these forums. let alone stepping up and trying to make it right! Those that know you wouldn't expect anything less.

I hope and expect the Tacoma will be made right, and adding the Locker is a nice gesture to smooth things out a bit. Bravo!

Now get that truck off road and do some REAL damage!

(BTW: No, I do not work for TOD, However I would not buy or service my vehicles anywhere else.:amen:)

I feel you pain man. Had to get a cigarette lighter replaced and the Toyota by Fairfax, VA tore up my interior, two big scratches in the plastic, and my poor baby was just two weeks old. Now I'm just going to think twice about warrantying stuff just to save the cost of parts.

Clearly you got it much worse that I did but I still can see where you're coming from.

I was just kidding about the locker. I will most likely buy parts from them but I will never have it serviced there again and while I really like my Tacoma I will never buy another Toyota again... EVER!

Maybe Chris & Phil need to buy this place since they seem to be the only ones there that have a clue on customer service. JK, but it's a shame a couple of shop employees who just happen to be enthusiasts have to save face for people that just don't get it. I have dealt with a handful of Toyota dealers in the southeast & what I have found are that the techs are, for the most part, pretty knowlegable & friendly people, but their employers are dicks and their hands are tied as to what they can do for you. Too bad it's that way. If I can't do it myself, I go to the old gent's shop down the road that has been in the business longer than any of these bozo's at the dealerships.

I would think the auto insurance company would force the dealer to pay for the claim.

After sitting on hold for 20-30 min to talk to Toyota North America then having them tell me they can't do anything cause they have no say over what the dealership does? It ridiculous that they wouldn't do something about this. The customer service SUCKS and when you pay $25000+ for essentially a bare bones truck I figure they would treat you pretty good.

Exactly why I think Toyota has a big problem. Most other companies have some say over what the dealership does because if they don't it badly reflects on them. Toyota has been able to slide because of their cars reputation for being reliable. But as other auto makers get equivalent in reliability (which they basically are now) the only thing that can distinguish a company from another is either price or customer service. Toyota has neither.

I can't believe you actually stayed on hold waiting. You should have known by now their answer. Yes, it's ridiculous to be treated like this after dropping major cash on their product, but realize you have brought to light to alot of people how Toyota & their dealerships treat their supporters. The only way to make Toyota & dealerships such as TOD wakeup is to not go there for your needs. Don't buy their warranties & don't let them touch your ride. Go aftermarket for your needs, it's usually cheaper & better quality. Support your local shadetree mech., you may be surprised at the quality & price of service compared to these arrogant dealership turds. The only way to make them hurt is to not give them your hard earned cash, & if everyone on this forum did this it would have an impact. Forums are a powerful tool as TOD is realizing (maybe not). Although I love my Tacoma, I hate Toyota, for my own reasons, and will probably never own another one. I just bought a Honda Accord after trying for 3 months to get a decent deal on a Camry. With Toyotas current issues the should be kissing major a$$ right now. I hope GM,Ford & Mopar are paying attention; I would love to see them knock Toyota off the map.

In a case like this, you do not involve your auto insurance!!!!!! The damn shop should have insurance. File a claim with their business insurance or sue' em. See which one they prefer. I have dealt and know personally many a car salespeople and service people at dealerships..........sorry Valk (not directed at you), but most of the people at car dealerships are the scum of the earth.....(think cockroaches) This guy was simply trying to bully his way out of this one.

I would have told them to pound sand and drove the truck off as it was. You call the police, get a report, and the rest can be handled later. YOU DO NOT DAMAGE SOMEONE'S PROPERTY AND TRY TO REPAIR IT WITHOUT NOTIFICATION & APPROVAL! Simple as that. If you damaged my property, wouldn't it be a conflict of interests in having you or anyone immediately affiliated with you repair it?

This is bullshit, and as far as I'm concerned this dealership can go Fuck themselves.

To the OP........you fucked this one up by letting them repair it.....now they can do whatever the hell they want, and say it's fixed. You give them a shot to fix it, and then you come on here asking for Monday morning quarterbacks. Whatever happened to good ole common sense?

Me too, but just thinking of the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and Dodge Dakota makes me want to throw up. These guys just haven't been able to get their act together as far as midsize trucks go. Until they do, I won't even consider one.
