And I thought the $4k markup on a TRD Pro back in 2019 was bad.

And how much of a markup does the advertising sticker represent that they put on the back? Any dealer who does that would be a red flag.

That's crazy, I'm tempted to look up who the owner of this dealership is and learn more about them. Nobody is forced to pay markups and buyer beware in a free market, but there are consumers that may have developmental issues so part of this makes me think about the ethics of this practice. I'm intrigued, this would be a good thing to call out on a local news consumer awareness bit.

Good for you but I bet somebody will go for it. The people that buy 3rd Gen tacos seem to be impulsive and the dealer knows this.

Our dealer in southeast BC is simply selling for MSRP. The aren't messing with their customers, but they aren't inclined to budge either. The only real negotiation is on trade-ins.

BTW: for you Americans, the MSRP on my TRDOR Access Cab Manual (we can only get 3.5L engines and 4x4s up here) in September, 2022, was $43,050 Canadian ($ US 31,380 at the current exchange rate).
Current list price for a 2023, same trim as above, is $47,035 (34,300 US) for the manual and $48,505 (35,350 US) for an automatic.
The Trail edition mentioned by the OP is $57,745 in Canada (41,900 US) versus the $ US 45,156 the Tampa dealer is showing.

And, we get a warning light if our windshield wiper fluid is low.

I stand by my earlier post that not everybody is getting that "markup." I'm not a sales dude but I've hung around enough to know sales speak. There's markups for profit and there's markups that simply translate to "fuck off." And whoever wrote that quote clearly had a strong dislike for the OP. That's all that was.

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade. :sorry:

No, he reached out to me after I put in a “check availability request” on Toyota website. We talked for a minute max, he stated truck was still available I asked for build sheet and price and he sent that. I have no doubt that $25k markup doesn’t apply to everyone; however, he thought I was desperate since I wasn’t local and he could turn a quick buck. Has nothing to do with liking or not liking me. If he got that angry from our minute conversation than whatever.

A 65% mark is not a "turn a quick buck" price. That is someone who probably would rather deal with people on the floor than chase down a phone lead that was assigned to him. I wouldn't take it personally - I'm a dude that shops by phone and I get the brush off more often than not. Cool, I'm not looking for the sales guy whose plate is full, I'm looking for ol' Gil who hasn't brought home the bacon in a long time and will bend over backwards to finally land that one sale.

I've gotten "fuck off" quotes before too. No biggie, their plate is full, or maybe they just didn't like my haircut. Doesn't matter, don't care. I just pick up the phone book and call the next guy.

That’s what I did. I got other multiple dealers that tried a $5k “market adjustment” too and I moved on from them as well. I just thought $25k was so outrageous for a Tacoma not some special limited run GR or Civic Type R vehicle.

For 25K you can get a 2016 4x4 with 124K on it according to Auto Trader in my area. Along with 18 other 4x4 Tacomas listed for under 25K

Cherry on top of that deal is the ridiculous tax based on that inflated price. That’s a lot of dough you’re paying Hillsborough county just to drive a Taco. And what exactly is the “Toyota of Tampa Bay Advantage” for another 3k? Free pretzels Wi-Fi at the dealership?

Back in 2013 I wanted a Mustang GT500 and at that time had the wherewithal to procure one. However... I was not going to pay a $10K+ markup on top of the price of the vehicle. The Ford dealers excuses were that the GT500's were basically pre-sold before they ever hit the lot, and they have no problem selling everyone they get.

Fast forward to November 2021 I had just made a hefty profit from selling my 93' FJ80 Land Cruiser and 96' Lexus LX450 and wanted a 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro. Living in Durango CO Tacoma's are everywhere nevertheless the local dealerships in Durango and Farmington NM had a 6 to 9 month waiting list along with the fact that I'd have to put a hefty deposit down on a vehicle that I couldn't even pick out the color or options along with the unknown "market price adjustment" well F*ck that sh!t.

All the TRD Offroads and Sports were pre-allocated and they did have ONE 22' Tacoma ordered that was not spoken for at that time. It was a 22' SR5 Trail Edition after a quick google search and watching a youtube video on the dealer lot I said I'll take it and four months later it arrived. With a population of 19,000 I've yet to see another Trail Edition in town or surrounding area. My thoughts are that the most popular and cheaper TRD Offroad are what the folks want around here.

I like the look of the upcoming Ford Raptor Ranger however just like the F150 Raptor the markup will be so ridiculous that it won't be worthwhile even considering.

?? why even contemplate a Ranger Raptor ?? Because the underpowered engine and vague shifting transmission are my biggest complaints with the Tacoma's
