My 2012 taco that I was and wax all the time clear coat is coming off. What’s the average paint cost on a Tacoma? It’s only the hood and roof damage the rest looks fine.

Let me guess, your truck is either blue, or white?

Total respray of the hood and roof? You're looking at $1000 on the cheap side I would imagine.

This is less of an issue with Toyota and their paint and more to do with the EPA and which paint and formula's may be used.

All of the good paints cause cancer.

I'm sure these do too but they haven't figured out how just yet.

What color? Has it been outside most days / nights over its lifetime or in a garage?

My 2014 Sport Barcelona red has no paint issues and is in the garage when not out and about.

A725AC2B-1C98-4ADB-AA97-CF5724BA03B4.jpg The color doesn’t matter. All colors eventually have the clear coat start peeling. Due to EPA laws/regulations they have to use certain paints that aren’t as good as previous paints. I just had my 2009 Barcelona red completely repainted about 6 months ago. Looks great. Complete 2 stage paint including camper shell was $2500 at MAACO. Have the complete truck repainted. If the roof and hood are peeling , other parts will also start peeling. Here’s a pic of the truck repainted. It needs a wash but looks pretty good.

Yep, my 2005 original black tacoma that gets washed only maybe 2-3 times a yr and waxed once a yr has no paint issues in Texas heat. Why not? It's parked in the garage. UV exposure will damage most clear coats.

Your Barcelona red looks great with the new paint. I also love your OEM wheels, I have kept mine too.

Has your hood bug deflector scuffed the paint prior paint and new paint?

Interesting. Just came across this this morning. 2007 Blue TRD currently at MAACO for strip roof/hood and tailgate, repair excessive chips on hood and repaint/seal entire vehicle same color. The clearcoat was severely failing on roof and starting on hood. Tailgate had a worn section where a magnetic sticker had worn away the paint. I'm supposed to get it back on Wednesday. Hoping for good results. I've never used them before but I was getting quotes between $3,500 to 6k for a "perfect" job. I don't need perfection for a 130k around town/boat/fish truck. I just need something that is acceptable and will prevent rust from topside. MAACO always seems to get a bad rap but I feel better seeing Sprig's comments. Also, they are independently owned and my local seems to have very good reviews. I noticed a person I knew on their review page, called him and he said he was extremely happy with their work. I guess we'll see. My quote with tax came in at a little over $1,400. I'll post results when I get it back.

As I said I had Maaco do my paint job and they did a great job. They offer 3 levels of paint jobs. I went with their best 2 stage paint. Cost $2500 and the included my camper shell. The shell was in great shape but they said if they didn’t paint it the paint the shell and truck may not perfectly match. They gave me a break and only charged $200 to do the shell. I closely inspected the truck and found no flaws in the paint job.
My neighbor has a chevy truck and the roof was peeling. He had just the roof painted by some place other than Maaco and they charged $1000. A few months later he noticed his hood and the front side started peeling. He took it to Maaco and had the whole thing painted. He should have done that in the first place. He just wasted a thousand bucks.
And Taco Husker - the way the bug shield attaches it doesn’t touch or affect to paint.

I just bought my 2012 on Halloween 2020 and the roof and hood had the clear coat gone and the paint was fading....pretty bad......but just the roof and hood. I had just the roof and hood painted for $1,200 from a high end body shop near me and it looks great now......I also had the rear bumper and 1 over fender touched up due to a ding on the bumper and a large scratch on the over fender for another $300.......I didn't see any reason to paint the entire truck as it was in great shape.

Glad to say I’ve not had this issue.
2008 black sand pearl roof was fine as of 2020.
I did wash and wax I also used a paint sealant.
Just purchased 2012 MGM roof is fine a chip or two.
    Not sure of previous care?
I’m in Vt so sunshine and temps are not excessive.
They are also garaged when not in use.
Paint was looking great on the 08 while having frame replaced:thumbsup:

My 11 is holding up fine but I don’t get the heat or sun you do in Miami. What wax are you using? How often are you waxing? If using conventional wax in Miami, you better be waxing monthly if not more.

Definitely seems sun and temp cook shit.
Wonder if other manufacturers have the same issues in these climates?
Not that it matters a lot but I use car guys paint sealant then turtle wax black on the black truck. I use mother’s carnauba also. Shine is amazing but takes hrs and elbow grease.
Have not done the MGM yet too cold.
Thinking the sealant or a ceramic coat.

we also have de icing washer fluid here.
    I do not use this!

Really? My 2010 209 Black Sand has had no paint problems beyond what has been inflicted on the trail and frankly aside from a paint correction and heavy wax I did on it when I first got it before submitting to the I'd rather have a fun truck than a clean truck mentality my paint as been rather neglected.
