I recently purchased a 1994 Toyota Pick up for 1k. The body is pretty darn solid and frame looks great. The caveat is that it has a blown head gasket. It starts right up and after 2 seconds in idle sounds pretty healthy. Anyways unfortunately it’s the 3.0l and an automatic. Either I’m gonna replace the head gasket or just drop a used 2.4l? Any suggestions? Also interesting in the manual swap, if I stick with the 3.0, I’ve heard it was a good idea. Please lend me your knowledge haha

Look Into the 3.4 swap. Pretty much bolts in. And I think harnesses are available. More power and reliable as can be.

Look into the 3.4 swap, best bang for your buck. That said the 3.0 isn’t a horrible engine, just has its weakness.

First of thanks for replying so quickly(I’m new), and second how cost effective is it vs just a new head gasket. I got quoted around 1400 with labor included for head gasket fix from a Toyota dealership with employee pricing through my ways.

That’s not terrible. If you have the block and heads checked for trueness MLS head gaskets (if they’re even available) MLS done right will last longer

If you’re not doing the work yourself it’ll be 3x or 4x the cost to get the swap done at most independent shops. That said, it’s not terribly hard and would be a good project!

I don’t know if I have the equipment to do so. :/ I feel I’d be jumping alittle to far in to quickly for my general knowledge of trucks.
