Toyota Plant Tour

Not sure where to put this so I'll just drop it here since I'm in a '17 TRD Sport now. Mods feel free to move if there's a better place.

If you ever get a chance to check out the plant in San Antonio it's definitely worth doing. Here's a few pics of in and around the visitor's center as no pics are allowed in the plant. That first pic is the million mile Tundra and the blue one is the first to come off the line.

 

I agree. I went on the tour last year and enjoyed it.

As a TMMK (Camry, Avalon, Lexus ES) Team Member it is amazing to watch these vehicles come together. I encourage anyone to go and check it out.

 

The thing that got me was Tacomas and Tundras built on the same line with no rhyme or reason ( to me ) to the pattern. The "just in time" philosophy is staggering to the layman. I've also toured the Corvette plant in KY too and was equally impressed. Y'all keep up the good work.

 

I wish they still made that little truck.

Modern manufacturing is pretty impressive. I toured the Honda motorcycle plant in Marysville OH a few years ago. I can only imagine how much more impressive truck manufacturing is in person.

 

great pics thanks. It would be cool to tour both the Tex and mex plants. I have read that the Baja plant is less robot and more manual labor.

 

Its to keep the line workers thinking/doing different things so they don't screw up on a mundane task

Took the tour a few years ago when I was visiting family in Ohio. That is one huge building with a lot going on. It's amazing how fast they come together and don't have to many issues off the line.

The Million mile Tundra (read about it on Jalopnik), is that in the parking lot outside?

 

Did you tell the manufacturer to start topping off their ATF fluid levels before leaving the factory?
