Welcome sight of that C-17 from JB Lewis-McChord in New Zealand, next to the Air NZ in the Maori Blacks livery. The side door on the ute reads "U.S. Antarctic Program, For Official Use Only." I would guess that it was locally sourced, since I visited with a dealer as I'd bought my first new vehicle, a 1984 Longbed Deluxe in Spokane the year before, and the cab and chassis 4wd utes were about the same price given the exchange rate. Interest rate card on the windshield looked like "9.9" but I looked closer to see that it was 19.9%. Inflation at the time (1985-1986) was 15%, exchange rate 0.53USD = 1.00NZD.

Click on the channel link, select Videos for the list in chronological order. That truck has at least one more episode out. The D4D is an amazing powerplant.

My first vehicle was a 81 hilux 4wd.
    I currently have 2 Toyotas. A 87 hilux and a 21 TRD OR.
The 81 is my actual truck. 30yrs later. I always said I’d buy it and spend any amount to restore.
I was too late. It was trashed. Still in my hometown after all those years.

Using my '84's winch to pull the radiator support bracket on my '96 project. I'm a user, not an abuser.

Great pics. This one isn't mine. Saw it in a parking lot recently. Not too old, but in great shape.

What distributor and ignition system is that? Looks like a Chevy HEI....
Here's my engine bay for reference:

His was a goldish orange color with the same pattern on the door stickers but not that color. Granted that was 35 years ago for me.
