got into a low speed accident pulling out of a gas station on Sat. pulling out making a left turn and lady stopped in front of me and i slammed the brakes too late rear ending her. everyone was fine, Taco has the just the front license plate slightly bent no damage.

I got 0 warning or anything from the Pre collision system. does it only work if you are up to a certain speed? Hadn't thought about it until today. Seems like the only time it flashes a warning so far is for no apparent reason where it thinks i'm going to hit someone who's very far away or doesn't notice i'm coming up fast on a turn.

Don't have one, don't know answer. But wondering if the owners manual doesn't offer operating conditions?

my 2019 has an alert at 23 mph (I think, it's low 20s) each time I slow, stating it's turned off.

I'd be willing to bet that info is in the owner's manual

It does, but I'm not sure what the difference is between the 2nd and 3rd,, relating to OP's question. What is the difference between "pre-collision brake assist" and "per-collision braking"? Their speeds vary from 7 to 20 mph.

At low speeds the PCS is disabled. It also won't activate if you are tailgating somebody.

It needs distance to register an objects motion relative to your grille

The system probably has its limitations. When you're driving straight it can better anticipate what's coming up fast in front of you.

Sounds like the lady in front was turning left, you were turning left. It just didn't have enough sensor info to get a hold of what was happening and make the decision

I read up a little on this subject since I have PCS (Pre-Collision System)

Here is states the system works at 7mph for pedestrians.

On page 254, it gives instances where the system may not work.

I think this may be it exactly. atleast it was a small accident kudos to @Chew for posting up the manuals info that's awesome and exactly what I was looking for. Makes a lot of sense and helps me understand it's limitations better!

you can download the manual on Toyota's site. It's much easier to use, being able to search hundreds of pages in a split second.

I believe the assist requires the driver to press the brake pedal, and the truck applies additional braking faster. Versus Pre-Collision Braking the truck applies brakes without the driver doing anything.

I think I do have it on my home PC. I figured I would post up my story since I don't see many other discussion topics on this subject on TW. I wish I had a success story of it working out, but at least maybe this story can help myself and others understand the limitations of the system better. I had to be going over 7 mph but the fact that it happened immediately following a left turn I think is what screwed up the system. Shoot perhaps it did assist in braking power and I didn't even notice. But I do know that the warning sound and flashing light i've heard go off before did not go off.

I had it come on one time when a nut in front of me jammed on there brakes for a turkey in the road and locked up there own brakes. I reacted at the same time as the system but was like wtf was that. I knew the truck had it but didn't know all the beeping and flashing would occur.

I was wondering when a testimony was going to pop up! lol

Had the same experience...I was going faster than the system allows for braking.

I had my foot on the brake already when the alarm went off...I'm glad I have good reflexes!

Okay, I had to do it for a Laugh!

You haven’t lived until you are driving at 2 o’clock in the morning on a very uncrowded stretch of highway and as you go under an overpass all of a sudden your system starts beeping and telling you to BRAKE for no apparent reason!
