I like my third gen access cab but the design is flawed, the doors creak like crazy when the frame flexes off-road. It’s just isn’t structurally rigid enough and it doesn’t feel well put together or high quality. I like the easy access with the door but nobody uses those rear seats. I guess with the 4th gen will be harder to load stuff in the cab. It will feel more solid though and probably be safer in side impacts.

That’s probably true unless there were more stringent regulations put in place. It will still do better in side impacts due to the design though.

I like the 6ft bed and don’t want a longer wheelbase. However if it’s impossible to load bigger things like a dometic fridge or large bags than double cab it is.

Before this truck I had an ancient Nissan extended cab. it had folding seats but no rear doors. A real PITA to load or get passengers in the back.
When I went to the dealer lot to look at Tacomas, I was happy to find the rear doors opened and the seats folded.
My 2018 AC is now my last Tacoma (assuming some other brand will have doors and folding seats with a 6 foot bed). I do not want a short bed or DC...and long wheelbase won't fit in my garage without major reconfiguration...even if I were to consider it...which I am not.

Like removing the temp/compass roof cluster and the bed cubbys over the rear wheel wells?

The majority of Tacoma buyers don't 'need' a truck, they just want one.

I have a 21 AC. If the doors didn’t open I wouldn’t have bought it. These are perfect for me and gf and the pup. The back jump seats have been used more then I’d like to say giving some rides. But again take away the door opening I would have never got the AC.

i would prefer doors to access that space but, even without doors i would still choose the extra cab and six foot bed over any double cab configuration.

i am glad toyota is still offering that cab option, rather than just the double cab. i wouldn't be surprised if chevy offers a similar cab in the colorado in the coming year or two. as of now the new GM twins are double cab short bed only. not sure what ford is offering with the ranger, i haven't looked.

Is the back seat actually usable for at least one passenger or teens?
ACLB is what I want but not sure it will work.

Ranger and Colorado did the same dumb shit also, I love the extra cab with the longer bed, perfect combination for me.

Maybe I should just hold on to mine.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
All reasons why I will not second guess the purchase of my '21 TRD OR AC. If I live long enough to ponder buying a new truck, it'll probably have to have wheelchair access....

Yes they are, I have my 9 year old granddaughter ride in the back every week. I’ve even stuffed my wife back there with her for an hour and a half ride on a camping trip.

My first Tacoma had a jumpseat, loved it!

Also, what the hell does "access" cab mean if there is no door LOL.

I’d even had a one full grown adult sit back there on some longer rides to the mountains. Was able to to load all gear and ppl in the AC.

I think there are probably several reasons some don’t like the double cab. For me, I wanted the king bed without the longer wheelbase. I also think the access cab has a sportier look but that’s just me.
