The Tacoma falls into this bucket. I have a 2019 Tacoma and very upset about this. I'm about to take long distance trip and Toyota is not notifying customers until mid-March if your vehicle is effected by this. What do you do in the mean time? I read that crash can occur at high speeds if fuel pump fails.

    What has everyone else heard?

A crash will only occur if you freak out and stop driving the truck. If the fuel pump dies the engine simply dies, it’s not like the brakes are suddenly going to lock up and the wheel is going to turn 90°.

Most GM truck owners know all about a fuel pump going out while driving.
    Scary situation for sure...

    stuff
Did something change from the 17 to the 18 model year causing it to be less reliable or is it the same part and they aren't recalling the older years?

The issue must be pretty rare because there would be numerous posts about it on here

I doubt it has anything to with the year or model. More than likely a bad batch of pumps from the supplier and they cross referenced where/when the pumps were installed

Mine went out with 25 k on it 19
Cc trd took a month to get back from dealer.
When I picked it up there was thirteen waiting on fuel pumps due to back order issues. Only reason I got it fixed as fast as I did was I called toyota corporate.

Interesting.... I have an early 2019 and just ran my vin and it says there are no recalls or service campaigns. Maybe it's because I have a 2.7?

When you say you ran your vin, what do you mean? Is there a website where you can check for recalls?
