Here at the dealership. I showed them the error of using the same old faulty buckets for my warranty repair- part # 81110-04173,(RH) and # 81150-04173, (LH).

The TSB states they should have been replaced with 81110-04210 and 81150-04210. Note the 04210's are the tinted Sport lenses. Others like SR5's and Off-Roads get the 04200's... They are ordering me the proper replacements that should have been originally used last year when I brought it in.
Win! Thanks to the sharp eyes here helping a brother out!!!

New buckets were in stock, so they swapped them out on site this morning, stoked! I will likely pull the amber running light incandescents and replace with amber LED to further minimize heat melt again. West Marine, here I come.

Looks good man!!! I can't wait to take mine in and get them changed out. Noticed just yesterday that my AMBER DRL's have started to melt. I doubled checked I am using the correct bulbs so they can't pull anything on me at the dealer for not changing them out.

Stock Running light bulbs are the Sylvania 4157NAK.

Looking into the led swap appears to not be as simple as swapping a bulb- i just found the relay mod thread needed to make the led swap. Not really thrilled about randomly grinding away on a relay hoping I create the correct resistance needed to run the leds..

Some companies will build the relay into the bulb so you might be able to go that route?

I too was not fond of having to use a relay so I just swapped back to the factory bulbs and returned the LED's.

I had this recall done last year on my 09 at Boerne Toyota because my DTRLs melted the inside of the housing. I am now running V3 Tritons in place of the Sylvania bulbs to try to keep this from happening again. Good results thus far.
i would go for the V3 tritons so it's all plug and play. They have resistors that plug right up

Yeah the price is definetly high.. but ive found with LEDs that typically, you get what you pay for and these also didnt require me to cut the factory wiring to run load resistors, so that alone was worth the price difference for me. But yeah they run cooler, instead of the bulb getting hot like traditional incandescents, the metal housing of the bulb is designed to help disperse the heat. I got them because i wanted switchbacks and was tired of wasting my money on cheap LEDs. here are a couple photos of mine

Was cleaning my truck today and it looks like my 2011 Off Road headlights are affected..they have the bubbling lenses on both and I have the official DRL mod installed probably for 4 years.

I am covered under the warranty for now, but I don't want to deal with making sure I get another set of smoked headlights. Not sure if I was supposed to get them with the off road or whether it was exclusive to Sport models only.

I took mine in today, with the TSB and Warranty Enhancement paperwork on hand to review. The customer service rep said this was the first time he had seen this particular issue on a Tacoma, and was using my paperwork as reference to get the claim started.

The TSB clearly says that the headlights should both be replaced even if one has the bubbles or cracks on the lens, as in my case - but the rep and tech said they would have to wait until tomorrow to get the service manager's approval as he was gone for the day. Judging by the pictures above, it looks like the 'off-amber' lens is gone altogether from the updated design. So replacement of both headlights better be part of the deal.

I wish the part number was called out on the headlight without removing it - i have a feeling they are going to just order the regular silver bezel design rather than the smoke. During the inspection, I had to correct the rep and tech - as they pulled the bulbs and said they must be running too hot or pulling too many 'amps'; its actually the lens material which isn't properly rated or compatible with the heat generated by their incandescent DRL bulbs, which were still original.

I noticed the paperwork says that the parts are paid for, but makes no mention on handling the labor - should I be anticipating or asking about a bill for the 2.5 hours of labor before getting this done?

As an aside - don't lose your keys! - they were getting ready to overcharge another customer $170 for the key (with built in buttons) itself + $70 to reprogram! This shit happens everywhere I guess.

Got it done today. Went extremely easy and the color was right the first time. My TRD Off-road which came with tinted smoked headlights (and could have been confusing for a dealer) received the same tinted, smoked headlights which are marked as Sport. Brand new headlights for my 2011. This was a $900 job.. Free for me.

For my case, the secondary coverage of the addendum Warranty Enhancement document made this go smooth for me as I met both conditions clearly. Make sure you have both the TSB documents on hand. They referenced my printouts for the OP number or whatever so that "they could get paid".

By the way, this warranty is probably wrapping up soon for the 2011 folks since it's only good for 5 years ownership or 70k miles....unless you picked up a 2011 well into the 2012 model year.

I had called my local dealer to see if I could get them to extend this warranty for me and since my truck came into service January 2011, they pretty much told me to pound sand. Luckily, I caught the melting issue early enough that the marks aren't that bad yet so I went ahead and did the DRL disable by clipping the green wire with the red stripe.

My dealer told me yesterday, that they would be happy to help me for $986.00!!!! The funny thing is they could not explain why being the original owner I never got a letter stating the extended warranty, yet I get all their stupid advertisements delivered right to my mail box!!!

I remember seeing a PDF that someone scanned in from Toyota that said something about "do not promote this service, only offer it after a customer complains..." or that effect.

Me as well. The recall period has ended as I found out when I went to the dealer last year.
