Toyota Recall ( Melting DTRLs)

My 2010 trd DC has never has never had day time running lights since I bought it

 

It is the (amber) turn signals next to the headlights that (are supposed to) stay on all the time. I have a 2010, and they stay on all the time.

Toyota has 12 regional distribution regions in the U.S. Two of them are independents, from the early days - Southeast (NC, SC, AL, GA, FL), and Gulf States (OK, TX, MS, LA, AR).
Locally, Memphis is the Cincinnati Region, and very few Tacoma's have DTL. My truck was purchased in North Carolina, and the DRL's were a regional-installed item on my truck. Cannot speak to the other regions, or if some dealerships installed the DRL's on their own. Was a $40 item on my computer-printed window sticker. Also, have no idea what % of trucks had them installed by the distributors.

 

do they give you the old ones if you want them back?

 

No. They are held for Toyota and sent back to them upon request for inspection.

 

David, what dealership are you dealing with? Looking for a SoCal dealership that won't give me such a hard time about this fix.

 

At this point, you need to contact Toyota. The way i read it as a tech, if one is messed up, replace both. That way the customer doesn't end up in your situation with different headlight assemblies.

The Flat Rate description is key. And in bold "BOTH"

I know, I saw that after I posted, figured It couldn't hurt to tell him again.

 

Call corporate first, get the confirmation # then goto the dealership. They cannot deny service at that point

 

I put my vin in and it didn't come up with anything for the lights. I have an 09 TRD double cab with the factory "smoked" style head lights and the dtrl covers are def melted and cracked.
What should I do? I'm not the first owner of the truck either


If I go to the dealer will they replace them with the smoked style ones or chrome ones?

So I am at Pat Lobb Toyota of McKinney right now. The Headlight assembly can be changed if you are within 50k or 7 years or up till 1.5 years after the TSB

Correction November 30 2015 regardless of miles.

 

I'm a lil annoyed as i have purchased lights from ebay and used lights off cl, as well as gone thru multiple bulbs and lenses correcting this assuming nothing would happen and now i won't be able to take advantage because i've "modified from factory spec" its kind of bullshit.

If anyone out there has a factory set of headlights (that are f'd up) i'd be willing to purchase them so i can get what i feel i have due.

I am considering calling toyota corporate but i am busy as heck with work, kids and life and dont have half an hour let alone 2hrs to sit on hold.

 

Guys, my dealer in Toyota Carlsbad and I said to make them both the same. Service writer even brought out manager, who took photos, and called corporate... The answer I got back a day later was NO, ONLY the damaged light is covered. That's why I am asking for more ammo to get the other light changed. They both look the same when the lights are on, but off the new one has a clear lens and the old one has an amber lens. Always did.
