By doing that i can't see any advantage of doubling up. Just spraying the chassis down with cosmoline seems more than good....i wouldn't want to spay fluid film over it only to find out later you now have a mess. I never try to overthink a good thing.

that’s what I did. Brushed painted the frame and underside with flat black Rustoleum and then spray bombed the areas I couldn’t reach with the brush when it was brand new. Fluid film every October.
Underside still looks brand new (or better). I’m in NE Ohio.
    Very simple.

Hope I can spray fluid film on top of the dealer rust mitigation layers. Will find out and report when I get my truck back this Friday.

Whatever rust prevention the factory might have applied on my 2020 taco if any, didn't seen affected one bit by me applying a layer of cosmoline. My dealer noticed it at my 2nd service this week and thought it it was a great job...even wanting to know who did the work and what was used.

Looks to me like the dealer noticed the Cosmoline.

Not sure what you mean? I was scheduled for my 2nd service with toyotacare...oil change, tire rotation, and some multi-point inspection. At any rate signed off on their 3 pages of all the stuff checked and completed. Their guy that did the service liked my rust proofing job and brought it up to their service adviser to ask what it was and who did the job saying everything looked great.

Well lets hope it all goes well. I have no clue what toyota has the dealer do, only you can bet its the minimum amount needed so it meets their expiration date that their no longer responsible for these rust issues.

Got the truck back. The dealer charged Toyota $1200 for a couple caulk seals around the welds. The rust spots I took the pictures of before the truck due in are still there. This is infuriating.
I can't count on these doofuses anymore. I'm applying my own rust treatment. I have to get a pressure washer first.

Because you got the treatment done, you get the extended warranty on the frame. Whatever they did (or didn't do) is not going to keep your truck from rusting away - that's on you.

Yep, pretty much what a toyota dealer told me when i bought my tacoma...that toyota has met their responsibility for any frame rust issues, but its still mine to keep the truck clean and free of these issues once their warranties are up. I figured while i had a perfectly clean new frame, i'd hit with something long term....sooner the better.

My 2002 had a frame replaced in 2011, and would not pass inspection this year.. replacement frames at that time had a 6 year warranty.. so even with a new frame, you can bet 10-perhaps 12 years max in the rust belt.. I’m NEPA, and they have absolutely no shame in spreading salt at the first forecast prediction of snow

Are you having this done at an authorized applicator
If there are going to properly prep the truck I’d go for if.

I'm not familiar with that stuff either, but for $100 or less, you can do the job yourself with 1/2 dozen rattle cans of cosmoline. Its holding up extremely well on my 2020 going through its 2nd winter here on the nw border of connecticut and ma. With fluid film i had to repeat the job every year after it washed off.
