    Hi All

My 2017 TRD Sport.....received a recall from Toyota Canada that there is an issue with the 3rd light gasket that can cause water insert the cab etc.....that they will change the gasket at "No Charge"....yeah right....my gasket is split on top of the gasket and maybe let water in the lens or something...so 2 weeks ago i've went to my nearest Toyota dealer from my place...lot of peoples told me their service there is so so...but when you don't know you don't mind that much....so i've took an appointment and drive 1h from my place to go there + the time i've lost at work...they took my taco inside....the guy told me it would take around 1h to change it...ok i'll wait....30 min after a guy came to me and told me we can't fix your taco your lense is broken....and i said so ?? probably the water that the gasket let enter or something broke the lens ?? he said it is not covered by the recall and we will take another appointment and the lens will cost you 250$ plus tax...it's not really a $$$ thing the problem but the waste of time and probably broken cause of their faulty gasket or they broke it when they tried to change it during the 30 min it was inside the garage...i said it's ok i'll fix it myself and you can check out my face for the last time in this dealer......was wondering if i was the only one that the charge of a new lens was happening to ??? or it is a kind of way to just have to change the gasket of 10$ and after let the client pay the bill finally ?? i've found a new gasket on internet and a nice smoked light lens for 120$ Can. at my place...just hope it will do the work though.....you can be sure next time i'll contact another dealer.

The broken gasket isn't likely the reason for the broken lens. Even if it was, good luck proving it. The campaign doesn't cover the lens itself, just the gasket.

They're not just replacing the gasket, they have a whole new way of putting the 3rd brake light on. New plastic and gasket and glue, etc. I believe mine took about 3 hours.

Yeah i know i'll not win my point with it...but it's only when the crack in the lens is right where the crack is in the gasket and they only things that goes on my bed liner with a leather cover is my grocery bags ...i'm used to do 95% of my mechanic chores so i think i'll continue....the point of my thread was just cause i was curious if someone else then me had the lens broken issue too...

same thing here in Colorado. Broken lens on the passenger side obviously from initial install. No leakage. So the dealer tells me they will replace the broken tail light at my expense. No water damage = No way they will cover the cost under LRC. Bought it online and did the work myself (about 2 hours of time) but dealer won't sell me the trim plate because I would not let them do the replacement. You must do the LRC to get the trim and the dealer will not sell otherwise (at least here). Spent about $80 USD to replace part. Dealer wanted about $750 to replace part with trim. Total screw job. IMO - just buy the replacement part and use Marine RVT to seal around it once installed. GL.

I mean, it is entirely possible (depending where you live) that water got in and froze, causing the damage. However, I suspect you'd also see water damage on the headliner as well.

I replaced the entire assembly - the gasket was part of the lens. The Toyota replacement part (lens) includes a new- thicker gasket. THE LSC uses this part and covers the marine rtv with the trim. There is another thread on this subject which has a link to the Amazon seller for the new revised part.

Wouldn't they replace the gasket and put your broken lens back on? Or just give you the gasket?
