For some of us, your truck has bigger balls than the the small owners ego. Wtf, roll with it. I work at a Toyota dealership in management and I haven't heard about this issue. Don't care anyway, I got 10 grand worth of inequity, so if the rear end locks up and I roll over, my gap insurance pays off my truck and I start over with a bigger budget for the next taco!

Just got back from NYC Manhattan . Interesting that about 96 out of 100 taxi's are Toyotas with 2 ford escapes and 2 Nissan van thingees . Tacoma is a tiny segment of Toyota sales but they should pay more attention to these 3rd gen rollout problems .

Newer technical gadgets like transmissions and rear differentials? Maybe you were thinking about hoods (flopping), door sills (kazooing), or air intake clamps (loose)? Or were you referring to the newly invented engine mounts (causing vibes), cab mounts(squeaking) , leaf springs (squeaking) or body-on-frame structure (vibrating).

The stuff that's causing the majority of the problems. Hell, even a "crank shaft positioning" sensor isn't newfangled technology.

After 50 days without my Tacoma - I finally got it back today. I took it in because my AC fan stopped working, and while they were fixing it the recall was announced.

    Dealer performed the gasket replacement.

Really appreciate the forums and this thread which gave me vital information when my dealer had nothing and a little comfort that others were just as frustrated throughout this. There's light at the end of the tunnel. But I'm sure many, like me, are a little wary of Toyota's vaunted quality now.

Hey which dealer? I'm in Wesley Chapel. Bought from Scott Clarke about a year ago but I'm on the fence about their after sale service.

Toyota of Gastonia, called about my rental as contract was running out. They told me they finally had the remedy and the "impounded" vehicles would begin to be repaired. Mine is #8 on the list.

So it looks like Toyota keep saying mid June for a reason , Thank goodness there's finally a repair in the pipeline because stories were starting to get so extravagant to the point where people were telling us that there truck will be at the dealer for up to a year or more lol

Still waiting for my rear diff recall letter in the mail....had the service done this past Saturday.
If I was not a member of TW, probably wouldn't even know about either recall (yet).

That's exactly why they tell people to wait until they get the letters in the mail. They don't want every owner showing up early, because they didn't have A fix available, or parts ready. As much as people don't want their trucks held, they don't want to hold them either

Yes, those rental costs add up.
But, if my diff was leaking and on the recall list, and I just happened to show up for my scheduled maintenance, I would be driving home in a rental.
Bad situation for those owners, no doubt.

Yes it is. But most of them on here knew about the recall and they only had slight wheeping. Very few actually went in without knowledge for general maintenance with no idea at all that Toyota was gonna hold their vehicle. Instead you get people on here who feel they are owed some type of entitlement, who drive striaght to the dealer and show the dealer that their diff is leaking. They know they are gonna lose their truck and be stuck in a rental and then they start to bitch about that. Then bitch how long they have to be in the rental because they wanted to get it in ASAP because they dropped all this money on a new truck and it shouldn't have any problems. Wel guess what? So did I and. So did a million other people. But you don't see me running at the slightest sign of a wheep. I'd much rather wait until they fix a bunch of them so my truck isn't the test mule. Plus I'd rather not go without my vehicle and be put in a loaner, even though it's always nice to put miles and wear on someone else's vehicle than your own

My Toyota dealer (salesman, not technician) told me I would get a letter in the mail if I was affected by this recall and if I don't receive a letter, not to worry about it. Does that sound accurate? I'm the third owner of this '16 Tacoma (yeah, I know) so I'm not sure if I would personally receive such a letter. I'm pretty sure I can see fluid on my rear diff though. Any thoughts?

Oh what fun, seems now because I am not currently in a rental (because I took my truck back) I am at the back of line as far as Toyota is concerned for getting the fix. Never mind the fact I have to drive 1150 miles in my truck in 12 days... might be time to give Toyota corp a ring again

If you have registered the truck, than your address should be associated with the VIN now, so you should get a letter. You can check on Toyota's website, here, to see if your truck is affected by the recall, if it's not, you won't get a letter.

Yeah, I did check Toyota's site and it has the recall on there for my VIN. I just didn't receive a letter is all.

Well, if your truck is listed and, especially if you have symptoms, they need to fix it. Maybe your dealer meant that they would schedule a repair for you whether or not you received a letter, that's what mine did.
