It is probably a very quick check by a low level tech in most cases.

Just spoke with dealer, said that parts won't be in until end of June or July. Once they inspect it and see the leaky diff they'll put me in a loaner until parts come in. Not sure how I feel about that...

I am pretty sure a lot of the pieces that make up the Tacoma are coming out of Chinese factories. I am hoping quality control will improve. I know, first hand, it can be difficult to keep your finger on the pulse of the Chinese supply chain, especially when cost is king.

Well did my 5k service this morning, and dealer wouldn't do anything since my VIN isn't listed. I do not have any leakage, so I didn't push the issue about at least checking the torque on the nuts. I will keep an eye out on possible leaks, and see if they will expand the recall to OR and Pro models. On a side note, I had my oil changed @ 5k on my own dime. Just don't feel comfortable doing 10k oil changes.

Yes, just call and speak with your dealer. They can't expect you to drive around in a vehicle when at any moment the diff can seize, resulting in a loss of control of the vehicle.

Oy vey! I already had an appointment for tomorrow to check the faulty speaker and do TSBs and then will bring this to their attention as my VIN is included. So from what you're saying a week after buying the truck, I could be in a loaner until June? Damn!

I'll repost this from the previous thread that got locked.

    1. If it's leaking take it in as it should be repaired under warranty.

    2. If you're notified that you're on the recall take it in regardless of leaking or not for the inspection and possible re torque / replacement of the hardware.

    3. If not on the recall and you haven't looked at your diff, look at it anyway. If it's leaking refer to item No. 1.

    Easy.

No chance they're putting me in some tiny pos car, demand they put you in a truck.

Just got a call back from the dealer. They said my truck is affected but it's so early in the recall that they don't have the protocol to fix it or the parts to fix it. They said it's a "stop sale" so they recommended I don't drive it until they get it figured out and get a loaner. I'm heading up after lunch to get the loaner.

Sounds like it could be a while.

I was just missing a piece of this puzzle. The reason parts will not be around until that time
(June/July) is because that is when the notice will officially be sent out by Toyota Corp. If however you
bring it in right now, asked to get it checked and you do in fact need parts, they will keep your
vehicle until parts arrive which will likely be at least a couple months.

yes, SOME. With the way some folks talk on here, my truck should have blown up already, or at least in the next few hundred miles. Shit happens and I feel bad for those that have issues, but NOT EVERY one's truck is going to have issues. And info here at TW gets exaggerated.

Have a appointment for Tuesday at 5pm in Tustin to review. Mines not leaking but what does that really mean in the long scheme of things.

Scary thing is that we all know that these are issued by weighing out the cost of the recall services compared to cost of lawsuits that will arise from the issue.
