If leaking now then yes because you'll probably need new parts and they won't be available til June or July. If not leaking now and you take it in they may just do an inspection and check the torque, no parts required and you're on your merry way.

I haven't heard anything about Toyota replacing the hardware on all differentials affected by the recall that are not leaking.

228,000 seems more like it's more than "some".

Interesting thing is the rear axle was awarded to Hino Motors and was a target for cost reduction on the 3rd gens. Oops.

228000 meaning they are inspecting up to that many, not that there are that many leaking.

Again with your overly dramatic doomsday generalizations...

Interesting. Any source or link for that? (not saying I don't believe you, just curious to read more if it is something available online).

Whatever man. It seems like I'm being proven more and more right with Toyota's cost-cutting design attempt at the 3rd gen coming back to haunt them.

You would think they would have learned by now, to not be such cheapskates and do it right the first time. Grief, what manufacturer doesn't care about having to spend more time and money fixing crap that should have been done right to begin with?! People are willing to pay high prices for high quality products, quit being greedy. ////rant over

I am in process of signing papers on a 2017 today that I beleive is affected by the recall. Not that I saw oil leaking but the vin comes up as affected. Are they allowed to still sell this truck to me? I don't want to finish the deal unless this is cleared up.

Don't sign until they fix it, or wait to buy. IMO

    None as of yet
They have to check it first and perform any necessary work. So if they let you drive off they either Retorqued the bolts or changed the gasket and hardware already.

I wouldn't sign anything if your VIN is on the recall list.

The recall says it's an inspect and if no leak found then tighten bolts. Seems pretty straightforward to do between now and paper work?

I've done a bit of consulting work for tier 1, 2, and 3 auto suppliers. It's all about price. Every make. Every model. I'd say it's unbelievable but it's wholly believable.

are they counting any 'seeping' marks whatsoever as leaks?
