I should think so. If it's leaking, it may have to sit for 2 months to get fixed. Who wants to sign for and pay on a new truck and get stuck in a loaner corolla? Not me. If it's not leaking, you can weigh the risks and decide if you want to buy it and deal with a more expanded recall down the road. It's whatever you feel comfortable with.

That's every business in existence. The only incentive to go to highee quality is if the lower quality costs more down the line in repair/replacement costs and PR damage.

If seeping marks present I would assume they'd replace the gasket per the recall instructions but I guess that depends on how good and honest the service guy is?

Dealer just told me minutes ago, notices aren't even going out until June/July.

Agreed. It seems foolish to spin wheels cutting cost without thorough testing on the new, inferior product.

There really is no calculation to the down the line effects. It's all about the lowest price today. I'm in finance. That's where my consulting is. I see the numbers.

This quarter's EPS is literally the only thing that matters. What might happen two or three years down the road if all sorts of unknowns happen just right is not of concern.

    No Worries -

Yaris will be the loaner vehicle.

They must be great, as they have many on the lot at all times. Toyota says "equivalent loaner" so you should get at least a 2016 Yaris. They are just as desirable as a Honda Fit.

So will you get to enjoy the Yaris status for a while as you drive into your work.

I guess if it's the equivalent vehicle (in their mind) you can do some offloading in it and then garbage hauling in the hatch?

Probably would be a great time to redo your yard and pick up some fresh manure.

    Excellent point!

Toyota may need help in hauling away bad differentials to the recycle yard. So some lucky few may be able to make cash on this recall

Did they say if that was due to a severe leak and it missing all
    fluid or just faulty parts?

You'll need to decide for yourself man. You'll have fan boys & haters on TW. All you can do is review the stats from other owners IMO. I have some differing priorities than some of the product reviewers and can decide for myself if the seating position or ride is ok. OTOH, it's hard to argue with owner reported problems. That said, I've bought vehicles that weren't highly rated in reliability because it fit my needs best at the time. Just so you know, I'm a Toyota & Tacoma fan & I used to get my paycheck from Toyota. It's a decent company with a lot of resources.

I think you're correct. What happened to the time when Japenese thought about the next quarter century? TM has > $25b in unrestricted cash on hand according to their own balance sheet. That's a bunch of Tacos even for a large vehicle manufactures & makes one wonder why they'd put out what's looking to be a half backed product.

I wouldn't think it would lock up unless it was really low on fluid. Dealer probably doesn't want to take any chances. Any leak could develop into a larger leak.
