I see you're from Washington state. Which dealership is your truck being held hostage at and how long have you been waiting so far?

Maybe some dealers are tightening bolts and then charging toyota for the full fix

If you have a loan on your truck, be sure to check with your financial institution before changing coverage as full coverage is likely a requirement when they have a lien against the vehicle.

Doesn't the rental costs eat into that a bit though? I'm around day 45 (I think..) and so far my rental is costing something like $35 a day to Toyota.

Not on the recall list, but decided to crawl under the other night to check it out. Called dealership and told me to bring it in and they will have a loaner if the truck is grounded.

That's not how the accounting works for something like this, but in any case a recall of this magnitude for a company as big as Toyota would have a miniscule impact on earnings anyway.

It would make more sense to give enterprise future discounts on Toyotas they purchase to rent out then eventually sell.

that's nice though. I asked my dealer to "look at my brakes" because I felt they were spongey. Response was "lead tech says they are normal".

Ok I got my truck (16 AC trd sport) after more than 70 days and I don't recall my truck stuttering like it is now. On reverse it stutters , while driving it feels like I'm always going small bumps with fandoms stutters.
Anyone else getting this with the replacement?

My apologies if I don't respond in timely matter

Yes, I have been involved personally in revenue and cost shifting in public companies so I know the drill intimately, only it doesn't normally work this way on publicly announced recalls or any other hit that is not part of normal operations. Once the recall is announced the analysts already bake it into their numbers, and the company normally takes a one time write-off for the recall to take the pain all at once (taking a one time charge) regardless of when the actual cost hits. For arguments sake lets say that they do want to spread the cost of this recall out. On this one the math doesn't work. The cost of getting the parts made and shipped is peanuts compared to both the labor cost to install them and the cost of the rental units. The parts themselves (a gasket and a few nuts and bolts), even expedited, are likely to cost Toyota perhaps $10-20 per vehicle. To spread it (labor cost) out over quarters they should be steadily shipping out parts and fixing a few a week.

Also, I was told by the service manager that Toyota Corporate had them under instruction to fix the trucks within a day of when parts arrived to minimize their rental exposure, but then never started sending parts. This does not meet the sniff test.

Toyota probably is not paying what they indicate they are paying, so it may be less, but you are correct. The parts themselves likely cost less than one days worth of rental per truck even if expedited. The labor is actually a much larger expense than the parts.

Bean counters are about to experience the true cost of fucking with customers when these resale values start taking a hit and customers start raising hell. There are plenty of folks in here who are ready to dump their trucks over it.

I think an aggressive twitter campaign would be pretty nice to see. #TacomaHostageRecall #TacomaDiffFailure

Maybe these hostage trucks will limit supply and my sale/trade in value will go up.

I agree, something about the sniff test here doesn't make sense. When I tell people I'm looking at possible 9 months (based on if the latest q1 2018 info is correct) they assume it's a frame recall. Not a gasket a few o-rings and some studs/nuts at the most, they look at me like i've gone off the deep end.

I think frame recall folks had their trucks back faster than 9 months right? It's absurd--which really does beg the question.

They haven't even included the OR differentials yet and those are leaking too. They are certainly slow playing it.

I'm not sure but that seems legit for a full frame replacement, maybe even 12 months by the time the paperwork goes through and a frame is delivered and then the hours among hours of the actual install.

    But still!

And any Pros yet on recall? Mine isn't, and I was a super early Pro.
