JIT was an excise for 60 to 90 days. If they had made the call to suppliers to ramp up for a recall campaign...the parts flow would be able to keep up by now. No, they just aren't taking it seriously and they aren't customer focused obviously. I hope the cost of the loaners and rentals is very significant. Maybe it will get them to change their policy in the future. Money talks.

You ain't seen nothing yet, wait until they get deep into the 2005 to 2010 frame replacement "warranty enhancement" (WEP ZH6) potentially affecting 887,000 Tacomas.

Not all will require frame replacement of course (my '09 "Florida truck" is like new down there), but that's still a LOT of frames. If a handful of nuts and a gasket for potentially 228,000 trucks have created this mess imagine what needing potentially 887k frames will do.

They have only just this month begun sending out customer notifications, stating they "will be mailed over several months" (from the linked document)--promises to be a good show...

Oh they have been doing that for a while now. When the class action was filed, Toyota did a voluntary service campaign to inspect all cold weather state trucks and replace the frames, that was started 5 years ago. When the truck failed inspection, it was taken and a new frame was ordered and you were given a rental. The average wait time for the new frame was almost a year!! I waited 9 months and they did a shitty job. Some dealers charged for some parts that were not replaced. There is a huge thread on the 2nd Gen section about the frame cluster event.

When the class action was settled, Toyota has to inspect ball frames and replace if necessary.

Yep recall was announced back in April, having a parts shortage is a BS lie, and again production trucks roll off the assembly line with no parts shortage.

The just settled class action suit affecting 2005-2010 Tacomas was filed on March 24, 2015.

Toyota had 2-1/2 frame rust related customer service campaign warranty enhancement programs prior to the class action suit, one for 1995-2000 models (CSP ZTG), and one for 2001-2004 (CSP ZTH) that was extended (that's the "1/2")--both of those were as you said "cold state" focused, and had a "buy-back" option if the frame was shot--though that option was more liberal in the 1995-2000 campaign.

In settling the class action suit "out-of-court" they have once again launched a warranty enhancement program for 2005-2010 Tacomas (CSP ZH6). There is no buy-back option in the current program.

I'll have to check. It was a very early build '17...first white OR that hit the lot.

Mine was very similar looking to yours (posted pics somewhere in this thread). Took it in...and they claimed not leaking and tightened it up. I came home and cleaned the rear diff to keep an eye on it. Just checked yesterday and no sign of it leaking so far (its been about 2.5 weeks).

That is probably all that actually needs to be done on 95% of them--whoever created the definition of "leaking" (click here) for the recall document either underestimated severely the number that might be misting/weeping, or did not have a clue as to what they were talking about. This confiscation of trucks that has been going on over a few milliliters of "leaked" gear oil is completely absurd...

any leak is a leak, dead stop.

but holding a truck for the very small ones seen here and the small ones in the TSB picture
is absurd. something stained, yeah, go drive it and check it weekly till we can do the repair

something shiny wet and growing, don't drive.

I had the weeping... drove my truck home and waited for them to call me about the parts. Took it back when parts came back in and they repaired. No issue.

They can't hold your truck if you don't let them hold your truck. You have to accept the risk of injury in case something bad happens, but like the guy said, holding all these trucks for weeping is a bit much. I drove for about 6 weeks or so and had no issues and the weeping did not get worse.

You do not "have to" accept risk of anything--there is no law requiring that you do so, it is their screw-up..

I would just smile sweetly and tell them no. Any lawyer worth anything would tell you not to sign a damned thing that has not been reviewed by your lawyer, and that by signing it you have formally and unequivocally accepted liability--for Toyota's problem...

well, i looked today at my diff and what do you think I found.......weeping again.....only less than 1k mile after they did the wipe clean and said nothing was wrong, then added red RTV and torqued bolts.....

will they now fix it properly according to the recall or do it under warranty....i was so pissed after I had pictures before they wiped it clean and they still denied doing anything...

gonna call tomorrow or take it in and see what happens....wish me luck.......should i call corporate?

If the dealership is not repairing the issue correctly, I would contact Toyota Corporate HQ and file a complaint.

Took my 2016 tacoma in July 23rd. They had to order all the parts for the recall. Just got it back Aug 22nd. They gave me a corrola for a rental. Feel bad for the guys/girls who have had it in longer than that!

I'm at 3 weeks today. And Toyota called me today saying I need to schedule my 25,000 mile service. Sigh. Get your shit together! I'm starting to think Toyota at least owes me giving me the extended 45,000 maintenance package. I really want them to make a payment on my truck because I'm paying for a vehicle that I'm not driving.

I understand they gave me a rental car but it's still not my vehicle. My groomsman in my wedding gave me a lift as my gift, and I haven't even been able to put it on. It came in the mail the day after I took the truck in for the 25,000 mile service. Anyone have any luck with talking to Toyota?
