Picked mine up today after being down for 20 days. New carrier. My service advisor at Santa Margarita Toyota did the best job possible. I will be getting 2018 Tacoma with the Toyota Safety Sense P package and the power rear window.

I just took in my DC TRD Off-Road yesterday for it's 10K and asked them to check the rear diff as I hear a howling and it looked like it was weeping in two spots on the pumpkin. They couldn't recreate the howling or road noise I hear but did say the rear was weeping and they ordered parts (gasket set). Seems like they don't want to address anything else because they said "there is no open recalls on this model for rear diff" so I guess I am wondering what I should be asking them when they get the gasket set in 10 days and call to replace them? Should I demand they inspect like the recall or what? I haven't had much luck with the service advisors being honest with me in the past and had to have a conversation with the manager but I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt?

Question for those that have experienced this issue:
    - Is the rear end howling a higher-pitched noise or more of a rumbling sound?

Camper shell on my rig and when I was hauling siding this AM I noticed a high pitched sound that is constant and does NOT appear to change in relation to my speed which I would assume a wind noise would do. The noise does not change with cross winds which further adds to mystery.

Almost sounds like a completely worn down brake pad/metal against metal....again.....could be some weird wind noise from racks and shell but not sure .....

Thanks for any and all feedback/input/experience summary....

Mine was a humming sound a lower pitched hum. 3 different differentials installed on my truck now. Teeth scored and metal contamination. Dealer also noted "damaged"! Mine was not wind noise . Also I don't have a bulky shell.

'17 TRD OR here - update: took it to another dealer. All I did was ask them to check on the weeping during an oil change. They opened a TAS case and got approval to replace the gasket. Should be done this week. Much different experience from previous dealer.

It's the principle. I shouldn't have to. I'm definitely not taking it back to let them do it.

I was one of the early ones. Had my truck out for around 80 days. Have had my truck back now for around 70 days. So far so good, no seeping. Hope this is behind me.
