My paperwork says they gave me a new diff. The last time I went, then just changed the gasket.

Back in! A couple months back they just re-torqued, the weeping began again soon after, they
said earlier that all parts are in so I'll have it back later today. It was a pain in the ass, had to go
back and forth with them because they stated "we did this already and you're back and this is outside
of the recall". I said, No, you didn't perform the recall work, you cleaned and tightened the bolts and
the issue is back, you need to fix it. He stated I need to speak with the manager, left for 15 min. came
back, reworked the service order so they'd get paid for a job they failed to do right the first time.

After reading these posts, I bet they are replacing the differential housing; not the entire axle. I wonder if part of the issue is a casting problem with the differential housing. Does anyone know if the problem is the gasket or over torquing the nuts? I've stated earlier, 18 ft lbs on a differential housing seems really low.

    The Toyota Official procedures is:

    1. No leaks, re-torque and send you on the way.
    2. Signs of any leak, seep, etc. Drain Diff fluid and measure amount drained. If it is above a certain amount, new gasket.
    3. If it is less than a specific amount (meaning loss of fluid) equals new diff.

Many dealers blew customers off and ignoring weeps and seepage which was against the Toyota Official recall instructions. Now because of this, Toyota will probably have to replace more diffs than if the dealers took care of it correctly the first time.

Toyota Corp through a press release said they introduced a "new re tightening" procedure in march of 2017. This indicates the Asian factories these axle/rear end assemblies were made were not torqued properly in the first place.

I thought I read the Tundra and Tacoma rear ends are manufactured in Marion, Arkansas.

This leaking diff B/S was the last straw for me......went in to the Toyota place with appox 7500 miles on truck, NO LEAKS. So they sent me on my way. Noticed a spot on driveway at 9000 miles. Went back to Toyota and they stated we will keep the truck till parts arrive to fix issue.......NO IDEA OF TIME FRAME. After NUMEROUS issues with this crap truck I got rid of it.......have not looked back.

Update on my rear diff. First, I didn't realize the recall was not on Off-road or Pro versions because they have a larger rear end. I contacted my dealer yesterday, spoke to a service advisor and sent them a pic of my rear differential. I had an appointment for tomorrow. He called and said not to come and that they were ordering a new updated gasket. He also said most of the trucks that are having problems we're over torqued at the factory. So, I wait for the part to come in and they are giving me a loaner. So far I'm really happy with this process. He also said the part was only available on manual allocation. Meaning it had to be special ordered from the dealership.

Just had mine done, was told the howl is normal. I have an appointment at a differenial/transmission shop locally to get a second opinion.

My dealer in Oklahoma told me they have zero issues with diffs because their trucks all come from the same place and they don't see any issues or have serviced any recalls. I was asking them about it before I ordered my 2018. Seems like BS to me. I wonder if the 18s will be any better off at all.
