Dude, is that a '16 or '17? Do you live in the rust belt?

They will replace the affected parts under drivetrain warranty, good until ~2022 or 60k mi for you, whichever comes first. By then, there will also probably be an aftermarket solution as well, with plenty of forum members/vendors willing to perform the repair for about 1/3 the cost of OEM parts.

The point is, we shouldn't have to pay for their issue

Is there any evidence that the recall fix is not working? Are people getting charged to perform the recall now? Who is paying then? Until the recall fix is shown to not actually fix anything, no one is paying a dime. Im just saying, aftermarket tends to make parts for those wanting different options, thats all.

I have been surprised at the amount of rust in the pictures on some of these low mile trucks.

And they are not in rust belt areas.

    Thin paint?

Look, a specific bolt requires a specific bolt stretch to create a good joint that won't loosen. Likely the torque specified wasn't right or the calibration of the drivers used to install the center section was off. It's likely tightening the bolts will correct the issues.

If it leaks later, and it isn't under warranty, just fix it yourself or have a competent shop do it. It's not a hard job.

Japanese plants in Mexico start workers at 90 to 150 pesos per day, or just $6 to $10 a DAY. Mexico's autoworker wages are now below China, but better than Mexico's minimum wage of $4.50 per day.

I don't expect any these trucks to make it to Toyota's 300K mile club.

Automakers now have 18 factories in Mexico, many built in the past 10 years. In four years, five more will be built, moving the country from the world's seventh-biggest auto producer to fifth.

More vehicles being made in Mexico while recalls have soared.I see a trend.

A $79 Dewalt drill is one thing but a $37,000 Tacoma is pushing the extremes.

VA brines the shit out of the roads. I fluid filmed and my frame is in much better shape.

My previous vehicle was a 2010 4Runner Limited (actually made in Japan), and after year 3, I couldn't get a bolt turned under that truck without a 3 day pb blaster soak. I learned my lesson and now I fluid film twice a year and rinse the under carriage after every instance I see brine on the roads.

Toyota is notorious for doing a shit job on rust prevention.

Read an article in the newspaper not too long ago that mentioned labor shortage problems in Mexico because of all the auto manufacturers that have moved there and having to pay bonuses to get qualified workers. They stated the average autoworker wage in Mexico is just over $3/hour, compared to ~$24/hr in the US.

I just looked at my underside and could see what looked like a couple leaks. Have an appointment next week with the dealer.

My non-recall OR has small seepage signs at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions of the diff. Yesterday I opened the fill plug and checked the fluid level. It was ok, just below the opening. With 14,000 miles, I will have it checked at the 15k service. For the record, will also inform them of the diff howling from about 55 to 63 mph.

Toyota saves a whopping 85 % in labor cost by manufacturing across the border in Tijuana Mexico. Obviously they're not passing any of the savings onto their customers. With the huge savings in labor they could put some of that money into higher quality materials, quality control and components. They actually did the opposite and degraded the build quality.

A double whammy that only benefited Corporate Elites and Toyota Shareholders.

I own a 2016 DCSB OR with locking diff. What is the correct torque number to tighten them up to?
My truck does not show up on the recall. I would like to get on this asap.

    Is it leaking?

If its not. Don't touch it must be right. If it is under warranty let them deal with it. That's way I see it. I bought one two days before the recall broke. Have torque wrench in my tool Cabinet. But, I'm not touching it. Let them do it in month or so.

Just so I don't have to read 60 pages, what does the recall entail?

    Description

The involved vehicles have rear differentials that may leak oil. If the vehicle is continuously operated in this condition, the rear differential could become damaged, which can result in noise and reduced propulsion. In some cases the rear differential could seize, resulting in a loss of control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. If the vehicle is continuously operated in this condition, the rear differential could become damaged, which can result in noise and reduced propulsion. In some cases the rear differential could seize, resulting in a loss of control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

    Remedy

The remedy will involve an inspection to determine if a leak is present between the rear differential and the rear axle. If the vehicle has no signs of a leak, all fasteners will be re-tightened. If a leak is identified, the rear differential carrier gasket will be replaced with a new one, and new fasteners will be installed. If rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced with a new one. This remedy will be at no cost to customers.

As others have said, don't touch it.

If your diff leaks, let Toyota handle it.

One of the members on here wrung the bolt off trying to tighten it.

The OR only needs 18ft lbs so it doesn't take much to exceed the spec.
