Update. Received call from S.A. that Toyota techs were out this morning to look at truck. Determined it was safe to drive and will release back to me when I go pick up this afternoon. Apparently they didn't touch the truck and that's that. According to S.A. mine was first OR they had seen with weeping diff.

So they aren't going to fix it? And that's acceptable to you?

Was there a discussion about correcting it once the recall remedy is available at some future date?

These are points that will be raised when I'm in front of him. In person seems to be more effective than over the phone.

AT LEAST now we're getting these posts of Toyota sending out techs to look at the confiscated trucks.

My truck went in for the 18 month service and is now held captive for the rear differential fluid level being low. Dealership has no idea when they can get a fix in. It's been over a week now.
    Arrgghh..

Can't go dirt riding or to the race track since I don't have another way to haul my bikes :(

Took mine in for 5k service, SA immediately brought up the recall and is the first think he checked, which I already knew I wasn't part of. I did mention I had a small amount of weep. They cleaned and applied
trace powder spray" drove it 45 miles(which I approved) and said it was from outside influence. Also brought up the diff howl which they confirmed they heard and after opening a case and confirming howl on another vehicle they verified it was a characteristic of the vehicle. My SA called me after I picked up the vehicle saying he thought it was BS that the sound is a characteristic of the truck and a new truck shouldn't be making that noise but there is nothing he can really do. My main goal was to simply have both documented and I will continue to monitor weep and keep looking out on recall status for Pro's. I also had my oil/front/rear diff and transfer case fluids drained and replaced as I do on all my new vehicles after break in.

Thx for sharing your experience. I wonder if some of our seeps/weeps are not real.

This is what I am prepared to deal with. I got the call today that its ready to be picked up and they echoed the sentiments that are listed in your write-up. They left me a voicemail yesterday along the lines of "we didn't here any *abnormal* sounds from the rear end". My guess is they are about to play the "its normal" card. I opened a ticket with corporate last night. They said a Customer Relationship Manager should be calling me today or tomorrow. I haven't heard a peep yet.

My differential has obvious weeping (some of the more egregious weeping I've seen actually). "It showed no signs of an active leak and we didn't see any seepage." and, quite miraculously, my howling differential isn't howling anymore for these guys. "We dont hear any weird sounds at all."

I was pretty blunt with the service rep today: that's not a suitable answer and they'll have to explain to me how this isn't evidence of a problem with the diff: [IMG][IMG]

Crawled under mine even though my VIN isn't on the list. Saw this....

Debating if I risk having it held hostage.

I took mine in hoping they'd replace the diff. It's been howling for ages and it's leaking. There is a good chance it's damaged.

They are refusing to even acknowledge it's leaking. It seems like people are getting polar opposite responses:the deny a problem exists or keep your truck because it's a death trap.

Seems like it would be a lot easier for them to just fix them.

Probably some dealers know if they acknowledge a problem and the vehicle is not on the list the dealer has to go through the warranty process and rent you a car. Basically the dealers get reimbursed by Toyota if Toyota authorizes it. And some dealers are shitty and don't want to deal with it, since warranty work pays little.

If you are on the list, it is pretty much dead guarantee the dealer will get reimbursed so they have no risk.

We have already seen very small leaks on NON Recall trucks, and the dealers contacted Toyota, and Toyota had them hold and or repair the truck.

So we have seen that Toyota corp considers the leaks bad. I would tell the service writer, that you will get them authorization yourself from Toyota Corp and tell them how poorly you were treated. See what that does. If nothing do it and then shove it up the dealers a@#$

Dealers have been bending over customers for years, time for the dealers to grab some ankles.
