Hiding a safety recall problem is your way of getting one over the dealer??? There are other ways to handle it and still keep your truck.

A bad gasket will most likely leak instead of seep (stain) in other words, your taco will be slippery and wet down there. No bueno!

The loose bolts is the reason why we have a recall, simple adjustment required nothing to it.

They re-torqued, cleaned the diff housing , and sent me on my way. Said to check on it periodically and if its seeping again to bring it in . Although my VIN wasnt on the recall , they said they are treating it as a recall and at this time have not been given instructions by Toyota to service since recall hasnt been released.

I'm going to take mine in for it's 10K service tomorrow and will ask what they plan to do about my weeping. It's a TRD-OR so it does not show under recall. I'll keep everyone posted.

Nope, that's not it at all. I just don't want to go nuclear if they confiscate my truck, which I will and probably wind up in jail. Got the truck back and they said it isn't leaking and they torqued the bolts. I've got some time until the next service (30k) and will keep an eye on it to see if it starts weeping. If it's going to do it, it will by the 30k interval. At that time, the parts (if needed) should be in the distribution channels and they won't need to confiscate trucks illegally. I also have an extended warranty to 100k so I think I'm covered. The real crux of this is that I did not want them taking my truck (illegally) until their distribution channels got the parts.

Hence why we got rid of the 2011 Sienna. They would not give out a loaner and said not to have anyone sit on front passenger side! Never got a fix available.

Well regardless, the diff is leaking, it's a warranty issue either way.

I would just have pulled the fuse and drive on.
There was a time when they didn't even exist and they're still not NASCAR approved, so there's that, but that's just me.

No kidding, I forgot to mention that the notice said something like "if someone sits on the passenger side, he/she may die if the airbag acts up and blows shrapnel in their face"....LOL I'm paraphrasing but that's what it essentially said.

For those of us in NC wondering about the Lemon Law. What do you all think about the requirements below? Sounds like they hold something for 20 business days and BAM!!! We get new vehicles or cash. Am I missing something? I don't show under recall for the rear diff so whatever they do to mine has to be under warranty...right?

The law requires manufacturers to repair any defect that impairs the use, value, or safety of a new motor vehicle within the first 2 years OR 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

In order for your car to be considered a lemon, all of the following must apply:

    • The issue occurs in a part of the vehicle that is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and you are within the warranty period.
    • You notify the manufacturer about the issue in writing and provide a reasonable period not more than 15 days to fix said issue.
    • The manufacturer has had 4 attempts to repair the same issue or the vehicle has been out of service for a total of 20 business days or more over a period of 12 months during the warranty period.
    • The manufacturer's efforts to fix the vehicle are not successful.
Under the lemon law, when your manufacturer is unable to fix the defect, you get to choose either:

    • A comparable new car.
      OR
    • A refund.

I had the same situation, to have it seeping again. Took it back into the dealership yesterday and this time they told me they ordered a new gasket and will let me know when it comes in.

Was going to wait on taking mine in but I rechecked it over the weekend and now the other side is just as bad so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Dealership is having to contact corporate so they put me up in a Ram for the day (fingers crossed it's just the day). They're also checking out the infamous driveline clunk while braking and updating the Entune firmware per the latest TSB (I've had a couple of random resets over the last month).

I just droped off '16 OR for 15k service at the dealer and told them about possible leak due to visible stains. Service rep stated that it is normal. So I asked him since it's normal do the brand new ones come off the lot with oil stains. It can't be normal clean differential and normal stained, pick which one is normal. He said they will look at it. My truck is not on a recall list.

But I was just kidding lolo!!

But while they're looking at it, tell them to go ahead and tighten them to spec to make sure, and while they're at it, have them do the same for the U-bolts, U-joint, and hanger bearing, It's what they're supposed to do every time and then some.

    Good luck!
    Cheers!

Thanks to this site, posts and comments. I was prepared for the dealer. I was do for my 15K service put my VIN thru and I was on the recall list. Looked at my rear and took pics. My truck was going on 1yr anniversary this past memorial day weekend and I did not have it because the dealership was told to keep my vehicle. They put me in a fully loaded FORD F150 from enterprise. It has been a little over a week and got a call from dealership. They told me they still have no update on fix or when it might be completed. My leak does not look that bad but I do not want to damage the vehicle by driving it because I plan on having it for a long time.
