So does the Lemon Law not apply to recalled vehicles that are not getting repaired? You would think that if they have it for 20 days it would qualify under Lemon Law. No?

That's what I'm saying! If this works most of us should do it as it would incentivize them to get with it. The x number of days clause in the lemon laws should suffice, right?

I would do this if my OR were on the recall.

Hence why whoever can put in a claim under their state's lemon law should. It would force their hand.

I'm pretty sure that earlier in the thread someone pointed out a provision in the Lemon Law that exempted recalls such as this.

It may vary from state to state so no harm in trying though

Soooooo? The Lemon Law does not apply because the issue is a recall issue?

Yep most Lemon Laws exclude recalls unless the recall is unable to fix the issue. Which most recalls do. If recalls were subjected to lemons laws car manufactures would go out of business fast.

Every state is different on Lemon laws and there is a lot of fine print. One interesting thing is the so called 30 days is void on many of the states Lemon laws if the delay is out of the manufactures control, like vendor and supplier delays.

Also I read that it is rare that recalls on vehicles have had successful Lemon Law claims.

One of the things about recalls is that the NHSTA promotes that car manufactures voluntarily issue recalls before they are required to.

Well, I'm hoping June is our month. The "official" recall notices were stated to be mailed out mid June. I called T. Corporate last Thursday, asked them for any updates. They said there was a fix available for mid June. Of course the guy was probably just reading something, but maybe it's a good sign because when I called a few weeks ago, the person said there was no information.

Like others here, they've had my truck for almost a month. But at least they gave me a Tacoma loaner, albeit a base SR. I don't mind, and i'm starting to like the 4 cylinder. Of course it revs up higher when I need to accelerate more or pass but I think it's been fine so far.

I spoke to 4 different people at my dealership in the last 2 weeks. They expect parts in and a fix in mid June according to all 4 people I spoke too.

Took my taco in yesterday for the 20,000 mile service. No leaks. Thanks OP for letting us know the latest news on the recall.

Just filed a complaint with the NHTSA that my off-road Tacoma is not included in the recall. I stated that Off road models are leaking as well and are subject to the same catastrophic failure as non off road models.
Everyone with leaking/seeping off-road models should file a complaint. Toyota is trying to screw us by minimising the recall.

Does anyone know what caused this in the first place? Is there a design error here? A parts problem? Or is this a manufacturing defect, caused by an operator or a robot?

Thanks for your reply. Reading that, the key phrase is this: "Due to a potential sealing surface contact variation, there is a possibility that the sealing surface performance may degrade and the nuts fastening the differential carrier to the axle housing may become loose. If this were to
occur, the rear differential may leak oil.". That makes me wonder, then, if this is something that could crop up in a vehicle (especially a new one with <3K miles like mine) after the truck has been checked for the problem. Will have to keep an eye on this, I guess, even though it's been checked and is "okay" for now.
