See I don't understand this, what's the hurry ? Wait for your recall letter and then take it in and follow the procedure. You're setting yourself up for failure by going in early what if they hold your truck?
Then you'll be back here complaining Toyota is rotten and they're holding your truck. My truck is also on the recall list and I'm staying away from the dealership until that recall letter shows up and a fix is in place.

Due to potential sealing surface contact variation, there is a possibility that the sealing performance may degrade and the nuts fastening the differential carrier to the axle housing may become loose. If this were to occur, the rear differential may leak oil. If the vehicle is continuously operated in this condition, the rear differential could become damaged, which can result in noise and reduced propulsion. In some cases the rear differential could seize, resulting in loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.

That's it...my problem was...I went to Dealer to have the radio software updated. I didn't know there was a differential recall on May 6th (it's on me to stay aware). They got me! People have known for awhile now stay away from the Dealer unless you must go in for an emergency...

Went to the dealer yesterday to renew my loaner, have to do it every 30 days. Dealer said they should have the fix in by the end of June but didn't sound super confident about it. Oh well, will continue to rack up the miles on the loaner (2017 Tacoma).

No disrespect to all having issues, but because my truck is not having issues, somehow I am not seeing the truth?

You are so hopped up on Tacoma hatred, you are spewing shit.
If I was having problems like you, I would have certainly gotten rid of the vehicle by now.

Your truck has no issues so therefore nobody else has issues. So instead let's Complain about complaining...

Joining the long list of fucked tacoma owners. They got me yesterday. Probably my fault for not knowing gthat they dont have a fix for the recall (i live on an island) Went in for 10K service and drove off in a fucking prius. yes... a prius. Literally told the manager at Enterprise to find me something real to drive or I would park the Prius on his desk... truck/suv will be there monday.

Anyone know if this is something that is possible? Just out of curiosity.

Dude, of course. It's YOUR truck. They can't legally confiscate it. They may require you to sign a waiver before they hand over the keys. But even if you refuse they do not have any Legal right to keep it. Not even Toyota Corp has that right.

I was itching for a fight a few weeks ago when I took my OR in but the dang thing is not on the recall so they just torqed and gave it back. :)

    Based on this description:

Description of the Defect : The subject vehicles are equipped with rear differential carriers assembled to rear axle housings.

Due to potential sealing surface contact variation: This may indicate that the rear carriers are defective... And the simple buy costly and stockholder price damaging fix of replacing the carrier is what the hold up is. Toyota is probably scrambling for a workaround fix so they don't have to do this. They already are having to make new frames for 2nd gen Tacoma's and Tundras.

In the very beginning of this recall someone posted that they spoke to someone they personally knew at corp, and that what was said is Toyota is very stressed because they don't want to have to replace all the rear ends.

The legendary reliability of the Tacoma was established with the 1st and some 2nd gen trucks. Now the 2nd Gen trucks have taken a huge it with many of the frames having to be replaced (my 2006 included) and it is now being forced on them by a class action lawsuit settlement where before it was voluntary service campaign. Toyota tried to say it was the excessive salt, but when the same problem cropped up in non salt states, same problem.. It was a poor design.

My truck is also on the recall list, and has signs of seeping around the carrier. It looks like old seepage and not fresh. I got lucky in that the recall came out 1 hour after I left the dealer for my 20K service. I checked the rear fluid level and it is fine. I am just going to keep a look out on it until a real fix is in place. After my 9 month frame recall wait, no way in hell are they going to hold the truck again.
