Heres a picture of mine, it's not on the recall list. it's going into the shop for other reasons, lets see what they say.

Not likely. The sales contract is with the Lien Holder. And even if Toyota did the financing. In the paperwork you signed there is fine print that any disputes will be settled buy an arbitrator.

Check the oil level in yours, and I would recommend soon.

There are lots of "speckles" all over your diff, not just the seeping areas.

Many on here have found their apparently small leak seeping diffs to be missing over a quart of gear oil.

I understand... I mean I'd get the mechanic I trust to do it. I just want to know what the issue is so that I can plan what I need to do. I'm just about giving up on Toyota at this point. I love this truck, but just frustrated w/ the way they are dealing w/ me. I get told it's not an issue... then told yes, it is. I figure if I want it done right, I'll have to do it myself (pay my mechanic) and then I'll know it's right.

The recall is posted, but the notices have not been sent out in the mail yet. You can search back on this nice long thread to see what the dates for the notices going out are, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. I was thinking sometime this month, but not positive.

As I've said before, I am not included in the recall. However, I had an appointment this morning for my leaking in the diff, and the service manager insisted that the gasket is redesigned and they will be installing that today on my vehicle and cleaning it up. Obviously I will keep an eye on it after just to make sure once this is completed, but I hope that is the end of this. Just trying to provide some information based on what I have been told.

Husky Floor Mats. Plastic center console divider. CoverKing Neoprene seat covers. Febreeze air freshener, the stick kind you put on the AC vent.
Here's another issue to think about if Toyota has impounded your vehicle; potential internal corrosion due to water in the gasoline. Are they cranking your truck occasionally to let the gasoline mix around and flow? I'm going to buy a can of sea foam and go to the dealership and put it in my truck and let it run for a few minutes..

Good to hear your truck is getting fixed but reading this pisses me off. My truck has been in the shop since May 2nd (yes I'm on the recall) and as of yesterday they still have no answer to what the fix is or when I will be getting it back. I have made 2 payments now on a vehicle not in my possession! Sorry for the rant just frustrated.... Ugh!

I read on Tacoma Forum (rear diff recall thread is minimal, compared to this one), someone posted their dealer told them the parts should be in by June 30. Who knows how reliable this is, but at least it's hearsay of an actual date.

Toyota should be communicating with us, put out an update, a bulletin, anything for customers who have had their truck held. Doesn't cost any money for them to put out a little memo to the customers and dealers.

Hey I guess another ray of hope, something a little more concrete at least, a little table scrap

After this I'll be very open to looking at the new Nissan Frontier and Ford Ranger.

That is GREAT info to hear. If that's truly it, and I hope it is, then this should be able clear this whole thing up rather easily. I feel bad for the folks who have a dry rear diff and have other damage, but looks like you were one of the lucky ones.

lol... you can't tell me that Toyota isn't reading Tacoma/Tundra/Prius/Carmy/Corolla forums to see what their customers are saying. I find that rather humorous if this wasn't all so sad.

That's not what my guy from Outback said!

He says we're all getting rear ends from the Hilux, and "sorry mate."

I just called my service manager today to check in on the status of the diff recall. One of the things we talked about was the hostage taking of the effected trucks. He said that Toyota has backed off on that and unless your truck is actually leaking they are not holding them. You can volunteer to leave the truck but it's not necessary. He said prior to Toyota backing off on the hostage taking, they had several customers that refused to leave their trucks. They cannot force you to leave them. I, myself, would be one of those.
I do have seepage and have been documenting any progress with pictures. So far with the discovery of the seepage in April, I have not seen any change in my oil stain.
