Brought in my newly bought 2010 TRD Sport DCLB to the dealer for a trans and diff fluid change and low and behold they told me my frame failed inspection and that they're going to replace it! Set me up in a brand now Tacoma for the time being

They said its going to take at least 3 months due COVID thus there being no frames in stock. Anyone have a similar experience? Anything else I should look out for or expect?

Here's a pic of where it failed (next to the cat). I would have never known. Otherwise the frame looked great.

Congrats! Dodged a bullet there. Take this as a lesson to always get a pre purchase inspection on a used car if you don’t know what you are looking at. This could have been a very expensive education for you

Could possibly run you around $1000.00 , all depends on what needs to be replaced? But the best of luck to you ,being the frame is the most expensive part !

When you get it back, first thing you should do is coat the frame with either Fluid Film, WoolWax, or Amsoil HD Metal Protect. You’ll need a wand to get in the boxed section.

I have a 2010 and had the frame replaced. My dealer did a great job took three days once the frame was in. And absolutely NO out of pocket expenses except for the gas for the loaner.they never tried to upsale me on anything. It rides better than when I bought it and all the fluids except for the trans were changed. You probably also have a recall on the leaf springs. And know that the dealer know whos had a frame replacement they want to buy them back. There constantly asking me to come in for a trade. And I keep telling them that I really don’t like the look of the 3rd gens. If you’re dealer does a great job you will basically have a new truck . Good luck with your frame. And like every one else has mentioned. Coat the new frame with fluid film or some equivalent

I see you're from jersey too. What dealer did the work for you? And yeah they said they're gonna do the leaf springs as well

Bought it from a family friend, told me he had it checked out by the dealer a few years ago and they passed it. Also gave it to me for nearly half of what its worth.. so no complaints here

My 07 replacement was a 3 day job. No real out of pocket for me. Supplied them new rear shocks and they installed at no charge. Repaired an ABS wire that got crimped under the bed or something. 20 bucks I think. New brake lines. Coolant new too. Should not cost you anything. Don't let the dealer screw you. If they try, go to another dealer.

My 2012 is in for a replacement and getting close to when they start doing work. By time I get it back it will be about five months. I am having the water pump changed and a new set of leaf springs put in. They also said the calipers were rusty and might need to be replaced.

Had mine done this past March. I supplied front struts, UCA's, (LCA's come with frame, as do hard brake & fuel lines, & various fasteners/hardware). I paid ZERO.

The WEP specifically states, "At no cost to the owner". Some dealers try to make the unknowing customer pay for miscellaneous extras. If you stand your ground and quote the WEP (Especially if you have a copy in your hand), you can probably get out of paying anything. However, there are some maintenance items that would be much cheaper or free labor to have them do while it's apart. Rear shocks are 1 example of that.

@lightlytoasted1726 Hey good for you dude! I had a great and interesting experience with my frame replacement! I lived in CO last year and was at Boulder Toyota for a routine oil change when they caught mine. I literally only had like 3 months left so I'm super lucky they caught it. They quarantined my truck and gave me a 2019 dcsb 4x4 which was sweet. That was in September. Told me it would it would be a month or two, reason being that they don't make regular cabs anymore and that they have to literally make a brand new frame. And it ships from Japan. Said it could be a month, could be longer. But whatever I get a brand new one to drive around, right? So anyway, I finally get a call that it's ready, in December. It only took them like a day and a half to get it all back together once the frame came in. I get my truck back and take it for a nice long spin. Everything feels great! I get home, open the tailgate, (I had a tonneau cover at the time) lo and behold, there's an empty 12 pack box of Modelo Especial in the bed...bottles too. No idea if the local hobos had a good time in the dealership parking lot or the techs while putting my truck back together  I never brought it up lol. I did however have my check engine light come on and I took it right back. Turns out they just forgot to connect a vacuum hose. Not a day after they fixed that, I was trying to beat a left turn signal and smoked a median doing like 30... instantly destroyed my alignment. Took the truck back again. I even admitted my mistake and they aligned it for FREE!

2 things that I noticed later on. 1.Theres a big ol white sticker slapped on the frame that says: MADE IN MEXICO like wtf they told me it was coming from Japan? Maybe it did but was assembled in Mexico..no idea how that works..maybe that explains the Modelo. LAWL. 2. I noticed after awhile that my hood was kind of shaking. Come to find out, they forgot to replace the nut that goes on the bottom of my radiator core support bolts. The bolts were literally just sitting in the hole. I had been driving it like that for like two months! I ended up replacing the core supports myself with some poly bushings and some nuts from the hardware store. I didn't contact Boulder Toyota cause I had moved away but I'm sure they would have fixed it for free.

This whole process aside from the bushings I replaced, cost me $0. All the fluids were also replaced for free. My experience with Boulder Toyota has always been great, I would definitely reccommend them to anyone on the Front Range. So anywho, kind of a long story but I thought you might get a kick out of my good (but strange) experience.

Thanks for the story haha. They told me my frame would probably ship from Texas but we'll see. I assume they'll have to align the truck after assembly as well?

My truck drove straight as an arrow when I got it back, that is until I smoked that curb lol.

I asked my dealer about this, they said as long as it was components such as suspension that will already have to go on the new frame, it shouldn't cost you anything. Just tell them what setting you want the 5100s set to. Hopefully your people will be as cool as mine were. Already sounds like they are.
