Funny, all the complaints about the last Gen [and the FJ] were because of the crappy manual and it's clutch slave and throw out bearing set up and little about the automatic. With the third gen, the opposite seems to be true.

It seems the worm has changed.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I'd say waiting 10 years to redesign and then rushing out the product was actually the problem, but that's from the perspective of a former software developer who watches companies do this kind of rush half-job bullshit all the time.

No because it doesn't address my issue with the way they're doing business. How about Toyota offer OP the option of new v. reman? Then I'd be happy if I were in his shoes.

I've done a frame off restores, rebuilt a bunch of motors & trannys and earn a good living working as a mechanic (in a different transportation field) using overhauled, rebuilt ect parts all the time. Some vendors produce great products some not so much but, I'm not unfamiliar when working with other than new parts.

I would not count MT problems out yet. Its still early and takes couple thousand miles for that thing to give problems. Engine, Transmission, Transfer cases, rear diff. Looks like everything is breaking except seatbelt bracket.
I wonder where is Mikey Swears. :)

That doesn't have anything to do with what I said.

I agree the "redesign" is somewhat half assed. I wouldn't say it was rushed though, just done as inexpensively as possible.

Sure, 6 of one half a dozen of another, but I know for sure it was in the works for a long period of time. Just as long or more than other Toyota redesigns.

No, that one was done in a week. Akio did it in his backyard. lol I bet you with the 75,000 tundras per year they probably gross more profit than ford does on 575,000.

I thought that was done in Seatbelt bracket Mike backyard, Same for Tacoma. That guy thinks turbo does not improve efficiency despite Ford ecoboost kicking Toyota ass for couple years already.

Nah, if you sit in the seat it picks up the weight and knows "something" is there. Which is why it bitches if you don't put on your seat belt.

At least in the 2012's it does?

We are calling Mike Sweers (Chef Eng for Tacoma and Tundra) a "Seatbelt bracket Mike" because he claimed that the only thing copied from 2gen to 3 gen was Seatbelt bracket.

They're giving you a working transmission. Ask for an extended warranty on the transmission and don't worry.

Just for shiggles, before you take it in for the replacement, take a permanent marker and make a small, innocent mark somewhere on your trans. Something you'd recognize, but wouldn't draw attention to itself. See if it is still there when they give it back to you.
