Are you just joking, or...... If your connect app works, then you should be able to triple press your lock button and hold until the vehicle starts.....

I'll say this, I was a commenter stating that I lost the ability to start with the fob after my trial(s) ended. Rewind back to date of purchase I knew the truck had remote start before purchasing and showed the dealer how it worked and floored him with it as he didn't know. So I just (thought I) knew what I was doing when I continued to try and having no joy up until yesterday. Yesterday, I went out and tried it several times, with the last try not waiting so much time between clicks 1-2 and 2-3 and then long pressing until the lights came on and truck started. I was floored. Tried it several more times and it worked like a charm. Not sure if Mother Toyota pushed something to the vehicle or I just figured out how it was supposed to be done(like I did on purchase day). Anyway, the beauty starts with the key fob like intended.

My 10 year old Chrysler van is the same. Get in. Push the start button to let van know you are inside.

If battery in the fob is dead, put it flat against the Start button. Truck will read the chip and start the engine. Or keep it running, if it had been remote started.

But you can't hold it there. As soon as you remove it from there it will state it does not detect a key fob.

No, but truck will start and drive, unless I am reading the manual wrong.

That's my point. You can use your key fob to start the truck with the key fob and drive away without it. The post I was responding to was saying the truck should simply shut off if no key fob is detected. In that case, the truck would be immobile if the key fob dies since you could start the truck and then it would immediately shut off once you removed it from the start button.

Just drives me nuts that my 2019 F250 work truck has a FREE connected service, which is the same if not better than Toyota's version. My Toyota one expired and I haven't driven my Tacoma since August, so I can't recall its full functionality.

Ford Pass: ODO reading, tire pressures, fuel level, distance till empty, service history, oil life, wi-fi info, and of course - Lock, unlock, start, stop, horn/lights.
Free. I use the remote features multiple times per day, every day, especially in this frigid weather.

    What the hell Toyota?

Na was being serious. It just worked though. Think I wasn’t holding after the third press. This whole time I’m such an idiot!!!

so will this still work after my connect subscription expires in February?

Not really it would work exactly like it does now. Remote started it would die when you open the door because the fob can't be detected. You'd just restart it with the fob by the button. There's still no reason to kill it with the door.

Either you just contradicted yourself or I'm not quite understanding what you're trying to say.

The fob can work exactly like it does today. Nothing needs to change with the function of the fob. If the fob is detected the engine doesn't die.

If the fob isn't detected because the battery is dead the engine dies when you open the door. The same process used today to restart for a dead fob would be used.

But the problem is that you'd use the dead fob to start it by placing it up against the start button. Once you remove the fob from the start button it would no longer detect the fob and automatically shut off.

I used the remote start ONCE in the time I owned my Tacoma. Didn't "need" to use it, but gave it a try. For me, i don't see much benefit of using it. Plus, as soon as I opened the door, the truck turned off, so I had to hit the start button anyway.
But I can see why people would be upset when they had something for free, then it's gone.
Ironically, I don't have that truck anymore, but I can still start it using the Toyota app, and I can see where the truck is too. It must in indoors right now, as the windows are all up, but the truck is unlocked.

No, once started it will keep going. This happened to my moms RAV4. She got home and I replaced the battery for her.

Just tried mine out after my subscription ended yesterday. The remote connect no longer shows in my app. Tried the key fob remote start and I was able to start and stop it.

Well.. one: you should probably stop creeping on your ex.

two: its nice if you live somewhere thats cold and you can warm up the truck before you get into it

Lol, how on earth did they think there would not be blowback from something like this.

The one thing that pisses me off about Toyota's remote start in general is that the truck turns off the second you open the door. Why couldn't they implement it where the truck would shut off if you remote started, then tried to put it into gear with no key present? It just seems silly to jump in the truck and have to start it again... It's kept me from using even my connect trial.
