Don’t ever use Toyota roadside assistance. They use the worst because they are the cheapest Toyota can find to do the job.

You guys may remember me as the guy with the carrier bearing problem from last week. Just wanted to share my experiance.

I had a...interesting/bad experiance with Toyota roadside to say the least. The driver they sent couldn’t stop fidgeting and scratching himself the entire time. Talked really fast and was all over the place. Caused me to believe he was a tweaker. They are prevalent in the northwest to begin with. It started with him loading it. He didn’t want to use his winch, he wanted to drive it onto his flat bed. I told him that my carrier bearing was about to fall off and would prefer he didn’t. He laughed and said just zip tie it into place. I told him I would feel safer getting the tow. He laughed at me and said ok. He didn’t listen to me about anything. While I was inside the house grabbing my items for me to ride along to the dealer with him I hear him start my truck. I quickly run back outside but by then he is already driving it up the ramp. Burning rubber trying to get it up the ramp into place. He gets it tied down by then I was watching his every move. He was speeding through my neighborhood and wouldn’t slow down over speed bumps. My truck would jump on the bed of the tow truck over each bump. On the ride to the dealership he decided to tell me about how he needed a new window gaskets for his leaky t top on his old mustang. He got it by him and his buddy ripping off a car lot in Gresham. They cut holes in fences and they crawl into the lot and found what he needed. His friend who worked for the guy at one point said he owes him money and begin to part the owners car out taking everything out of the car while they were there. I’m talking rims, seats, stereo, anything worth any value. He then said he seen the story in the news and how they are looking for the guys who took the stuff. He said the reporter said they took nearly 15k worth of items from the business. I preceded to tell the Toyota dealership about who they hire to do the towing and they just shrugged their shoulders about it and continued dealing with my truck. But anyways got my truck to the dealer and taken care of.

Safe to say I won’t ever use or recommend the free Toyota roadside assistance to anyone. That to me was a true example of you get what you pay for. I do have AAA and have never had a problem with them in the 10 years I have used them. My old cars before this truck would have problems all the time. This was my first new car ever. But AAA is safe courteous and listen to what you want. I will use them evertime I have a problem from now on.

Go ahead comment on my story and share your good or bad Toyota roadside assistance story as well.

Im sorry to hear that, I would of been pissed if some tweaker drove my truck after having specifically asked him not to. Hopefully I wont have to use the road side assistance... Knowing my luck I'd get a similar experience. Glad to know your truck will get the carrier bearing fixed tho!

That’s partly how I felt through the entire experiance. I was a wide range of emotions at the time.

I wasn’t happy but the dealership wouldn’t hear me out. So I used everyone hear for my venting and thought it would be a good warning. Hope that was alright.

LIve it up man! Someone is bound to read it. I have alot of distrust in dealerships, autoshops and what not so I dont think I would of taken my truck in for the carrier bearing. Im not even sure i want to go in for the oil change they give for these trucks. But i still have 2k miles before my complimentary one so i have time to think

Its a tough job. They put up with a lot of shit and for a lot of them it's the only job they can get. Not defending this guy, but I don't exactly hold up a tow truck driver as a pillar honesty and integrity. I used AAA to tow a vehicle many years ago. Took it to my mechanic, and then The driver and mechanic almost came to blows over the drivers suggestion I take my car somewhere else.

It has nothing to really do with Toyota. AAA could have easily sent the same tweeker.

I wanted it documented just in case it happens again or something else happens along the driveline. The carrier bearing wouldn’t have been hard to fix at all. But that’s how Toyota knows how they fucked by people bring their cars to them and getting them fixed.

    But Toyota hires them.

Edit, if you got to the bottom of the write up I tried to tell Toyota and they didn’t care.

No they didn't. Toyota contracted an agency who contracted hundreds of shops from all over the nation to provide roadside assistance when needed for "X" rate an occurance.
Toyota is no more responsible for hiring that guy than you are. He didn't meet your expectations. Neither did the guy at Lowe's who helped me load mulch this morning. Neither did the lady directing traffic at the airport yesterday.
I guess the difference between me and you is I didn't blame Lowe's or the airport. I think people should be responsible for their own actions.

There's probably some central organization like AAA that runs these road side assistance programs. I don't think every car maker that offers it (I imagine pretty much most of them) run their own program.

I would think so, but at this point between a 94 Chevy s-10 and the 02 Audi TT I had numerous problems I called them for and so far they are batting 100% good in my book. It’s who the tow companies choose to hire and to be AAA certified you have to be somewhat decent as far as I know.

The company that Toyota hired to use got terrible reviews online 2/5 stars. They weren’t AAA certified. Granted I know to take online reviews with a grain of salt but the reviews were not far off.
