I think that’s my plan tomorrow so long as they don’t point out something dramatic I didn’t see under there today.

Looks like normal wear, don’t worry about it. Tacomaworld will tell you you’re from will rust apart soon anyway.

I haven't seen any posts of LCAs failing from damage to the underside. Mine and many others have failed from the thin piece that goes around the bushing.

agreed. if it drives straight you're good. mine has had the crap kicked out of it. You'll be finding mud in places forever. if you have the means and the time, pull the rotors to dislodge anything if getting the heat shields out of the way doesn't help. I had a lot of noise when mine took a salt bath and had salt crystal that created a film over the pads...made your ears bleed.

I didn't say my insurance wouldn't cover it, I'm saying I don't think they *should*. The majority of stuff I mess up on my truck while I'm out goofing off on the trails, I am going to pay for it myself.

I don't think insurance should be paying your a busted CV or bent control arm (or whatever) because you're trophy trucking it or get bound up on a rock and hammer the throttle. To me, it's the "if you can't afford the game, don't play" sort of thing.

I think the exception would be if you have one of those policies that Progressive has, but I'm not aware they have ones specific for road legal vehicles (just ATV's, motorcycles, boats, that type of stuff) for off-road/trail use. If they do, great. I'm sure they're out there - maybe? People have special insurance to cover their classic cars, would be great if they had street-legal trail trucks in mind too.

Maybe it's a little different for me now that my truck is a dedicated trail truck, but that's also why I didn't wheel hard with my truck when it was my daily driver, and needed it to get to work on Monday. I have the legal minimum coverage on my Taco now, full coverage on the other vehicles.

Why have insurance if you aren't going to use it. This isn't some masochistic challenge to see who can give away the most money. There are consequences to using insurance for smaller claims, but if it's covered in the policy it doesn't really matter what your thoughts are. I personally think only a fool would pay out of pocket as some sort of monetary penance.

I’ve been told, by a Toyota salesman, that the TRD off-road isn’t for heavy off road use. So if your truck shows signs of having been off road (scuffed skids, dented driveshaft, carved differential) it will take a huge depreciation hit. Ask me how I know.

That salesman should watch 4wd Action on YouTube. Amazing what a near stock Hilux will do when you give it to a crazy Ozi.

Those guys pound hard on their stuff, great drivers. It's what they are made for. I see too many trucks by me with all the stuff bolted on. No winch, no scratches, maxtraks never came off. Lame...

Clean trucks have no stories. I'll take the depreciation hit. My Taco looks like a rake went down every side. Cheap money to pay for the experience.

    Cool story.

But I don't think I should be helping you pay for your damage that you did while screwing around off road. Nor should you help me pay for mine. Remember, car insurance is socialism: everyone else is helping you pay for that damage. For some things it makes sense, like making sure people aren't driving shitbox cars with a bumper fixed on with bungee cords on the highway. For other things, I don't think it makes sense, like repairing that CV joint you snapped.

Most insurance companies only cover this type of stuff because they fail to ask what you were doing. It's cheaper for them to just stop asking and cover it. That's great, you do you. They have plenty of exceptions for wreckless driving, but they don't tend to ask too many questions when a claim comes across their desk.

But part of the reason your and my premiums are as much as they are is because people use them for things I don't agree with. Hell, you can jump a curb while drunk and hit a telephone pole and get the damage covered.

If you aren't helping me pay off my shenanigans you are paying for the exec's second Lambo. I promise my shenanigans have more value to you. There's videos.

Looks fine to me. As long as it drives straight. If mud isn’t cleaned off rims it can make them unbalanced.

Coworker just dropped off the lab trailer for it's annual maintenance. Shop quoted 20 hours labor for rehanging the side door and installing new brake pads. 20 hours. At 70 bucks per. I wanted to have it pulled out of that shop within the hour, but everyone else shrugged their shoulders, said whatcanyado, and submitted the quote to purchasing. :annoyed: Ain't even my money and I'm still sore about it.

OP, when you get that second opinion, ask a lot of questions. Always ask questions. If they answer with just the faint aroma of bullshit, thank them for their time and walk.

It shouldn't be a collision claim, it should be comprehensive.

While I tend to agree with you (I usually wouldn't file a claim if I damaged my truck while I'm wheeling), insurance will absolutely cover these kinds of claims (or any insurance worth anything). It doesn't even have to be a "legal" road. You out wheelin and roll or slide off the trail in to a tree, it's covered.

EDIT: the reason why I usually wouldn't file a claim is while they may cover it, you will pay it back many times over when your rates go up. There is a reason insurance companies are some of the most profitable companies and it's not because they cover claims at a loss to them.
