What are the benfits to change to an aluminum housing? I have 2 cars with plastic and combined mileage of 200k miles.
    I would bet a $20 , average diy'er has a sh!ty torque wrench(including myself) or not at all

Seems about right for dealer. Depending how much your times worth you could obviously do it for cost of fluids and parts.

Takes me about 30 minutes to change the spark plugs alone.

Probably 2-3 hour jobs on your own.

Toyota did NOT charge him a penny, the OP was taken advantage of by a dealership because they could.

UPDATE: I rescheduled with same dealership for today, but have went over the list of maintenance they planned to do (list was without cost, except for the $206 rear differential service):
    1. Drain and refill oil (will ask to not do) (I go to other shop for this)
    2. oil filter replacement (will ask to not do) (I go to other shop for this)
    3. tire rotate
    4. cabin air filter replacement (will ask to not do) (will do myself)
    5. engine air filter replacement (will ask to not do) (will do myself)
    6. replace spark plugs
    7. torque driveshaft flange yoke
    8. install windshield washer solvent (will ask to not do) (maintenance not recommended per manufacturer)
    9. MPI multi point inspection
    10. install fuel system treatment (will ask to not do) (maintenance not recommended per manufacturer)
    11. install premium coolant conditioner (will ask to not do) (maintenance not recommended per manufacturer)
    12. perform battery cleaning service & install pads (will ask to not do) (maintenance not recommended per manufacturer)
    13. rear differential service (maintenance not recommended per manufacturer)

    = $1,300

Dealer services are pricey . But you can shop around at other dealers since not all of them charge the same amount. The spark plug replacement is a lot of work and shop time .

    Basically you have the following:
Oil Change ($19.99 at any independent shop)
Diff fluid change($89.99 at any independent shop)
plugs ($149-199.99 at any independent shop)

all the rest is always dealer fluff. local shop here will rotate your tires with oil change for free.

No chance you are getting Synthetic 0-20W oil changed for $19.99 and getting tires rotated. That’s. 79.99 job at independent shops in the Bay Area.

0w20 5 qtrs cost more than you quoted
Diff service - reputable diff oil alone costs close to your quote.
Sparkplugs alone will cost you a over $100, not to mention driver’s side "difficulties" to replace them

Those prices are insane for synthetic. Cost of supplies for me to do the oil change and diff alone exceeds those costs.

Forgive me looks like full synthetic is $54.99 with rotation and semi-synth is $27.95 with rotation.

suggest you bring your own fluid and plugs and just pay the labor.

$19.95 oil change? With what used motor oil ?

the parts alone are $35 + at least 20 min in labor. So that would put you at $60-70 at cost and no shop overhead etc

edit: looks like it was debunked

Which is cheap af if you ask me. Oil changes are loss leaders for any shop outside of Porsche that charges 699

Excluding the tires, brakes, alternator and shocks I've had to replace I don't think I've spent $1300 total for service in the 14 years and 219,000 miles I've owned my truck. I do my own oil changes at 10,000 miles for around $30 using Mobile 1 and a filter bought at Wally World. I do my own air filter changes as needed Tires are rotated free from the tire store I use. Toyota reimbursed me for the U-Joint I replaced at 170,000 miles.

Not debunked but updated. I had a local shop do all my work on my 11 before I started doing it. That is what they charged me.

I quoted sundevil auto near my house with updated prices.

I don’t know what to say about that or what parts they used. But they sure as hell weren’t good parts. Regardless of whether or not they “ruined” the truck.
$19.95 doesn’t get you a turn signal bulb change

It's pretty pricey out there! Dropped off my 2019 Tacoma OR 4x4 and it cost $1150 for:

    - Fuel system/Throttle body service and cleaning (excessive carbon)
    - Oil and filter
    - Spark plugs
    - Front and rear Transfer case service
    - Differential service
    - 60k service (mostly the things listed above)
    - Tire rotation
    - re-torque propeller shaft bolt and grease

Pretty sure I got hosed for a couple hundred, but saves the time of picking it up and taking it to an independent shop.

    Roast away.

I don't doubt the op's bill if the dealer charges like ours here. I can get the same job done by our toyota certified napa shop in the next town for a little over half.
