    First the quick backstory...

Picked up my '16 DCSB TRD OR in June. Downsized from a Ford F-250 Crew Cab. Bought the Tacoma as I wanted a smaller more efficient vehicle, and have a reliable truck that would last.

Put on about 5000 miles over the summer. Truck has been great and I am extremely happy with it, but I did notice a couple of small issues...

    1. The tranny...Truck drove and performed flawlessly unless you used the cruise control. With the cruise set, no matter what the speed, when ever the tranny had to down shift it would automatically shift from 6th to 4th, and then hang in 4th gear for several minutes before shifting briefly back to 5th and then to 6th. This continuous cycle was annoying to say the least.

    2. After several longer trips, I noticed that the hood seemed to flex at highway speeds. A closer examination revealed that the adhesive between the underside of the hood and supporting ribs was beginning to break down and separate in some areas, with other areas clearly not having a sufficient amount of adhesive at all.

Fast forward to this past week...

Brought the truck in for the 5k mile service, and mentioned these issues.

    1. On the Tranny issue - Dealer performed the shifting TSB, and it drives like a new truck. The overall power/drive ability of the truck seemes to have improved, and that pesky up shift/downshift issue with the cruise has fixed.

    2. On the hood - Service Manager was going to open a case with Corporate. Within about 20 minutes I received a call back from the Dealer indicating that Toyota had authorized full repairs, including a free rental car for the duration the vehicle was going to be out of service. They're going to have to remove the old adhesive, apply new adhesive, and completely repaint the underside of the hood.

Although I would have preferred to have no issues out of the gate, I understand that things happen...and so far I am very pleased with how quickly Toyota stepped up to rectify these issues. I drop my truck off tomorrow for the hood repair, and will be sure to follow up here with how things ended up

Sounds like your dealer is taking good care of you.

Ask them if this is the official toyota fix for the hood. I wouldn't let them sub my car out for body work (paint) have been some horror stories here from people doing this and the hood comes back jacked up. Poor paint job, overspray etc. I'd tell them you want the official toyota fix for this (hint there isn't one yet) you don't want the dealer sourcing it out to a body shop.

In my area it seems none of the dealers handle on-site paint & body. At least a couple I know of anyway send to a place called Service King Collision Repair. I've had personal experience with them unfortunately and they did outstanding work

That is the official fix. Either that or someone is just going to goop the shit out of it like one member here had done and it's going to look like ass. Toyota could send a new hood but it's still going to need to be repainted.

A lot of body shops warranty their work. If it looks like crap when you pick it up simply refuse to take it and request it be fixed. They will get it right, they don't really have a choice

When I spoke with the dealer, that was the fix from Toyota. My dealer has its own body shop, so it will be handled in-house. I drop it off tomorrow and should be able to pick it up Wednesday. No doubt I will take a little time in checking things out when I pick it up. Will post up more when it's done.

Sounds like a good dealer. I go to Weiss Toyota here in St. Louis. They did the transmission tsb while I waited, less than 30 minutes. I showed them the bed was off about 3/4" to the drivers side and they fixed that on another day. Mike Collins , my salesman, treated me so well and we were so happy that we purchased a new Rav4 XLE from him last week.

They leave it to the discretion of the service department. You really have 4 options

    1) They order a new hood that is adhered properly and it need painted
    2) They reapply adhesive and don't paint. (Going to look like a Cobb job)
    3) They reapply adhesive and repaint.
    4) You live with the vibration and your OEM hood is untouched

    Those are the options

The fifth and final option that needs to happen is a TSB to get this resolved officially

Pretty sure there is a TSB. If not it doesn't really matter, those are the only ways to fix it

There is no official fix. FTS rep confirmed it to me. They are still trying to figure out what to do. As I've said before another member had their truck lemon lawed because of this.

That's fine. The individual will be back eventually I suspect based on my discussions with them outside of the forum and when they are I'll call you on it.
