Right? Only reason it was made here in the first place is the chicken tax.

Personally I'd prefer a US assembled truck, and I'm in luck because the one I have was built in Texas. But I'm sure they have a good reason for the move, likely lots of $$$$.

Ultimately, your money is going to Japan. The economy is global. Somebody posted where even the Silverado is only like 46% domestic parts. I guess we can ignore the "Buy American" propaganda push from 80's GM.

Want an American-made truck? By a Ridgeline.

My Truck says made in San Antonio, Texas. Toyota designed the Tacoma specifically for the North American market at Calty Design in California. 1st gens were all built here from 1995 to 2010 in NUMMI and then San Antonio. TJ originaly only produced the truck beds and began with about 30,000 trucks produced in 2004 and slowly started building more and more. Toyota pays the designers and engineers which many are indeed based here, (Kevin Hunter, Mike Sweers, etc) pays taxes here, pays workers salaries here, and pays the shareholders many of which are Americans, and the biggest Tacoma customers are Americans.

I like this Tacoma, it’s a nice solid little truck. I most likely would not have bought it if it were made in Mexico- I know most people don’t care- I do.

Toyota is a good company to work for from what I have read, just would have preferred it if they built a new factory here.

Sure, if they were building a new factory then yeah, it would be great if it were in the US. However, it sounds like neither of the plants that will be building Tacoma’s are new though. Both exist today.

Just food for though, Tacoma moving to Mexico= more profitably= more money to shareholders which I am, any of you with IRA’s, 401k’s are to. And when you want the hottest new mod for your truck do you go to Toms auto parts on the corner of downtown Main Street and buy it for $199 or scour the internet to find it for $179? More money in your pocket. Is there any difference?

Do you really own TM stock? I hope you bought it in 1980 or at least in the period from 2008-2012. It’s been a little flat since.

Can I also add this. Original designer of 1st Gen Tacoma and many other Toyota cars is an American at CALTY Design research inc. (CALifornia ToYota). 3rd Gen Tacoma was designed by CALTY in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Mike Sweers is also a lead designer for Tundra and Tacoma

President of Toyota himself says he wants Toyota to be considered a US Manufacturer despite being a Japanese brand.

Was that a fat joke? And yes he is pretty cool. I was just about to give up on this place. He shed some light and now I'm one of you freaks.

Given how terrible the TuRd gEn is, are we sure we want to keep the designing done in Murica?

Do you like the Hilux better? I’m sure it wasn’t designed here.

I have audited several OEM suppliers and honestly have higher expectations out of Mexico than US. They have more pride, ownership, and overall better factory culture than US based competitors. Lower corporate taxes allows better bottom lines and allows companies to afford experts regardless of whether they contract it out or send some soul from the US to live down there. I've lived both lives, to each their own.
