I just read an article. Apparently Toyota wants to replace the Hilux with the Tacoma and use the increased capacity to export more trucks to central and South America.

Toyota wouldn't replace the Hilux. Maybe they'll expand the Tacoma to other markets but I'd be pretty pissed if the Hilux disappeared

I mean Replace Hilux in North America. Right now i think the Hilux is imported to Mexico and then to the southern markets.

Even then, they still wouldn't do it. I go to Mexico every weekend and see more Hilux trucks than Tacoma trucks. That's not because the Hilux is a more affordable truck, I think it has to do with the fact that it is a more reliable truck with the optional diesel engine that makes them so popular down there

The only Tacoma available in Mexico is the TRD Sport DCSB in either 2wd or 4wd. The Hilux has more flexibility with trims and options than the Tacoma does too

Probably because most trucks are made for sale in the US and then Canadian market. Mexico only gets what ever is left I guess.

Nope. They're engineered for the safety regulations and poor gas quality so the Tacoma is definitely not just the "leftovers"

The US and Canadian (I think) are the only ones with TSS. All other countries don't have that system on the grille nor the buttons on the steering wheel

    Working on it ...
Tacos from Mexico. Who would have thunk it ...

Taylor Guitar has a plant in Mexico 45 minutes south of their San Diego plant.

A lot of companies have “dual residency”.

My first Toyota truck came from Torrance California. I don’t know, “it’s business, not personal”, I guess.

It's like it's 1970 and people saying "I'm not going to buy a Japanese car." Ridiculous.

The only thing Japanese about the truck is the brand.
