My only concern at this point is the workmanship by the dealer like you mentioned (pending getting failed this week). I’ve got to think this will be the first one they’ve done, possibly one or two before (Galveston, TX which is a small beach town island right outside Houston). My other choice is to bring it to a bigger volume dealer that probably has more techs and possibly more experience. Really either way I see it as a toss up.

Sad but so true techs doing there first frame swap it is all new

Once it is approved sit down and figure out just what all is getting changed with the frame.

Not that you end up with a big bill at the end.

As each dealer is independent having no experience they might think it is just the frame and want to bill you for all the other rusted parts they break removing.

I wouldn't worry too much about them maybe not doing a frame. While it's a lot of parts, with a lift it's easy work. there's a counter argument that the smaller (and Galveston isn't really that small, 60K+) may not be as rushed to just throw it together. The dealerships also could prob. use the easy factory money and they like to keep residents buying on the island if they can so they may try to make you happy.

If your going to be a FF on the island I'm sure they'd like to make you a customer for life.

How far west did you move? laughs.

edit: this corner of TX is small, most of us move about in the 100 miles pretty easily.

Would never be a FF on the island, crappy schedule. I work for Houston. Moving to CA full time as soon as my new gig starts over there.

Already bought a vehicle from them and my mom bought one shortly after that. Have a good relationship with them, just not service wise. Wouldn’t go to another dealership to buy a Toyota though, they really rolled out the red carpet for us.

That’s crazy. I hope they take care of it for you. I don’t have any personal experience with it but I’ve heard of some people having to pay for the labor. Hopefully you don’t have to pay for anything.

I’m 0/3 on dealerships so far, 2/3 of them telling me it’s very likely that it happens and then both in the end said no.

If rust and holes are the criteria, how are they not failing my frame? I have a feeling it’s necause the truck is now in Texas and they don’t get many or any claims. I’m really scratching me head now...

Called corporate back after being denied 3 times. Now I’m being told that the warranty extension is void due to the truck NO LONGER being registered in a cold weather state. It’s in Texas now. Don’t quite understand that being that the damage is already done, regardless of where it is registered now.

Doesn't make sense to me. I bought mine in North Carolina and had the frame replaced in Georgia. I'd call back and talk to someone else. They don't all know how it works. Some of my best conversations with Toyota USA had very long periods on hold. I assume the person I contacted was off gathering information. I've found that if you politely say, "No, that's incorrect. Will you please double check?" that they will.

Well I received the “final” decision from Toyota corporate. Evidently one of the dealerships did contact some kind of rep from Toyota to come see the frame and he deemed it not necessary to be replaced....so I believe I’m out of options. Maybe I could try in the fall right before the deadline again.

I get the sense that Toyota knows the deadline is approaching, has been doing less of them lately and just wants to wash their hands of the whole warranty extension program.

I had mine done at Superior Toyota in Shawnee Mission, KS(now Rick Hendrick Toyota). It’s a Kansas City suburb right on I35. It was done several years ago and they did a great job. My frame was not near as bad as yours. It’s about 4 hours closer than St Louis for you if that makes a difference.

they can screw off there. wouldnt even bother taking a look at a faulty 4wd actuator under warranty and proceeded to say i need to read the manual

From what I understand if the tacoma was coated by toyota themselves that extends the warranty. If it still rots they have no choice but to replace.

The frame on my 2004 Tacoma looks fine, but one of the rear shocks looks rusted to shit. Is this covered in their extended warranties too?

wear and tear parts are not covered. time to buy a new set of shocks for yourself

if you mean the shock "mount" and it's on the frame then get it checked. otherwise, no luck.
