I’m not sure I’m following this all correctly. So I won't be able to use my key fob to remote start a 2020 truck anymore?

It will still remote start with the fob, no worries. I have a 2020, my subscription ended many months ago.

Oh ok that's a relief! So what's the remote start that people are talking about then?

Cellular not satellite  But it reads like they are going to disable the remote start from the fob itself. My 21 still works out off subscription, but they probably do have the ability to disable it.

they used to disable the fob based remote start when your subscription expired, but something caused them to change course on that decision and now it will still work.

I think The remote connect is worth it for winter only. I subscribed for the start of this winter. I will cancel in Spring. Its nice to remote start from anywhere. I also like asking Alexa to start my truck when i making my coffee in the morning. Destination assist is dumb. And emergency alert is probably not worth it if you live in a major metro area where help will be most likely summoned fast.

So if they're going to subscription based services, that implies a rental-type arrangement. Does that mean if it breaks, does Toyota own repairing it or do you get bent over the barrel for that also? I think this would be a good boost for aftermarket parts.

On Toyota models built just as recent as a couple years ago, the vehicle cellular system was only 3G capable. 3G will be deprecated in the future, so they realized they are stupid and the cars they built with all this modern connectivity tech won't even function before too long.

But hey, Volvo is doing subscription services for entire cars! If Toyota limits it to frills, I can go on just ignoring their subscription stuff.

I believe all Entune 3.0 devices (2017+?) have 4G and most networks will support 4G until at least 2030. IMO 4G will be around much longer than that due to the long-range band. Wasn't 3G already discontinued?

I don't understand how these companies are "stupid" for incorporating technology that the rest of the market has adopted? When that time comes, you could live with the radio with the few missing/non-essential features (it can still update via wifi), OEM upgrade, or go aftermarket. At least we have those options. It sucks, but the same can be said for ALL technology (TVs, computers, etc.). This is also one of the main reasons I love CarPlay/Android Auto.

I like getting a notification that my doors are unlocked every time I park my truck in the garage.

I just got my notice that I will need to renew soon... What a rip off.

Funny thing is, they would probably get more out of me if they sent me a catalog of dealer accessories and a coupon. "Hey you had your truck for a year! Now is a great time to add a lift kit - here's $$$ off for installation!" or something like that.

I renewed the remote start subscription. To me it was the only one worth it. I park outside and the door open reminders and being able to remotely lock my car is nice. Also being able to start the car without having to go to it is nice. I normally start it as I'm doing other things in the house and about to leave (ie making coffee or getting the kids ready).

Funny just had to make this decision as ours expires at the end of the month. As you said being able to see if the doors are locked is a great feature. The big benefit is the remote start. We used it a ton during the summer. When it’s 110 plus outside being able to pre cool the truck is awesome!

You don't need that to start your truck remotely or door locking, unlocking or to remote start. I say fuck u Toyota for a few useless options. GM just announced they will never adopt this ripoff !!!

You do if you want to start in from inside a store. To get it to start with the remote you really need line of sight to the truck. By that point it’s pointless. To each their own.
