Kobe steel has admitted to falsifying data related to strength and other characteristics of it's products, for as long as a decade. Toyota has said they have used Kobe products in "hoods and rear doors of some vehicles."

I'd be more concerned about the material on the passenger jet's wings than the integrity of my hood o_O

I find it to be more an indication of the state of Japan's manufacturing sector--this is the same sort of thing Harry Truman went after in '42--profit rules, all else is secondary...

With all the source documents and crap we have to deal with regulatory wise in aero mfg, I'm not worried at all.

Source: currently sitting next to 4 airbus wing spars.

Don't worry! All metals used in Tacos are sourced in North America, where companies would never admit to falsifying test results.

Paperwork doesn't mean much when the contents are falsified. Only thing different in aviation is it exposes the signer to criminal prosecution in addition to civil lawsuits. :p

They specifically said the date range of falsifying data was from September 2016 through August 2017. Sounds kinda 3rd gen.

I'm still waiting for my Takata airbag replacements. I'm not holding my breath for a new hood and doors.

didn't they also mention that the problem could also have extended into earlier years too, but those events have not been verified? one of the articles I read I think mentioned that.
